They were navigating through the complicated system of undergrounds rivers from where water disappears underground to where it resurfaces in the springs of Florida.
Morro Bay is a beachfront town in San Luis Obispo County, California. It is located along the central coast of California, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The whole island is in the shape of a giant square with white sandy beaches full of people sunbathing, swimming and fishing right on the shoreline. From the end of the hot pavement parking lot to shore of the beach is an ocean of soft white sand. The pearlescent white sand seems to know how to invade every nook and cranny almost as if it enjoys it. Walking around the beach on the fluffy whiteness surrounding the parking lot, the seagulls are fighting over scraps of food on the ground. “Sandy beach ecosystems provide invaluable services to humankind. Their functions have been exploited through history, with significant anthropogenic effects (Lucrezi, 2015)”. This white sandy beach is a beautiful refuge from the mundane grind of everyday life. The smell of the misty ocean air mixed with the sound of seagulls hovering above and kids playing is a tonic for the mind. The feel of the sand between their toes and the waves crashing over them as people swim in the water, or the jerk of a fishing pole when someone is catching a fish makes Fred Howard Park one of the best places to relax. Standing on the beach looking out on the water, people are kayaking and windsurfing. The lifeguards watching vigilantly in their bright red shirt and shorts, blowing their whistles when they see someone being unsafe. After a long day of swimming and laying around visitors head back over the soft white sand to the showers, in order to rinse off the menacing sand that clings to everything like a bad habit. Everyone rushes over the hot pavement burning their feet to reach their cars so they can put away their beach paraphernalia which is still covered in the white sand, nearly impossible to completely leave behind, so when they get home it serves as a reminder of where they were that

The Florida Everglades have been slowly and steadily diminishing in size for over many decades. Throughout the years, the Everglades have had an abundant, healthy environment. The massive swamps were once rich with marshland, and had ecosystems chock-full of wildlife. However, due to large corporations, natural disasters and most importantly, the growth of the human population, the Everglades are 50% smaller than they were hundreds of years ago. The destruction of the Florida Everglades includes not only a diminishing number of the marshland, but also the lessening of wild life, such as alligators, herons, and exotic plants. The Combahee River Collective was a black feminist group. Barbra Smith was the author of “A black Feminist Statement” in the reading she discussed the origin of modern-day black feminism, what they believe, problem when it came to organizing black feminist and black feminist issues and practices. They believed that all black feminist were linked. They argued in order for any community to start welcoming black feminist they have to really look at how black women’s lives were affected by the subjugation of racism, sexism and class. The black feminist had difficulty in organizing their groups in the reading it explains many of their issues. For example they had low value as black women in society and they were also fighting with all the people in society that believed they did not deserve rights. The women in Combahee River Collective were an extremely influential group they fought for all women rights and struggled to overcome many situations and never gave up for their right.
The Florida Everglades is one of the most diverse wetland ecosystems in the United States. These tropical wetlands span an area of more than seven hundred square miles in southern Florida. The term Everglade means river of grass. The system starts in central Florida near Orlando and travels southwest to the tip of Florida. The Everglades has a wet season and a dry season which causes a great change in hydrology. During the wet season the system is a slow moving river that is sixty miles wide and over a hundred miles long. During the dry season water levels drop and some areas will completely dry up. The Everglades has many different aquatic environments all having interdependent ecosystems. The most important factor for all these environments is water. It helps shape the land, vegetation, and all the organism that live in each area. Each environment has particular needs for the organisms living in that area. Throughout the years humans have diverted the water to fit their varying needs. The state has built dikes and levees, dug canals, and have built locks to divert the water. This has all been done to keep areas completely dry for developing and agricultural needs. Today, The Everglades is half the size of its original size. Throughout the years many restoration acts have been created and updated. The Everglades restoration projects have been the most expensive environmental repairs in The United States. This is because The Everglades is one of the three most important wetland areas in the world. Sir Walter Raleigh was an english explorer, writer, and poet of the 16th century. In 1584, Queen Elizabeth allowed Raleigh to colonize any unknown land in the New World. He set out and eventually colonised Roanoke Island. Unfortunately, Raleigh was sent back for supplies for 3 years. When he got back, he found the colony in ruins and the word “Croatoan” carved onto one of the tree trunks.
Most of this region’s history meshes with the history of the Delmarva Peninsula. Originally, when the English colonies were established, it was and the original focal point at the time, Chesapeake Bay, were part of the Virginia colony. However, the term Eastern Shore became a more common term to use because of everything was to the east of the peninsula.
