American Cancer Society Introduction The American Cancer Society’s main concern is assisting people, making profits come second. The American Cancer Society helps patient’s life by finding cures. “For over 100 years, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has worked relentlessly to save lives and create a world with less cancer. Together with millions of our supporters worldwide, we help people stay well and get well, find cures, and fight back against cancer” (American Cancer Society, 2015a). Many people in this world see the importance of the organization and find the interest in donating money or providing anything to help the cause. The ACS mission statement is: “The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service” (American Cancer Society, 2015b). If the cancer is at the earliest stage it can be treatable. ACS also provides and informs patients to stay healthy by staying away from tobacco, eat healthy and get advice, how to be safe while outdoors in the sun, there are also other ways to protect them. In addition, there are tools and calculators to help make healthy eating habits easier. Lastly, there are cancer screening guidelines, which help increase detecting cancers early. Patients, survivors or caregivers can call or go on the ACS website to get information. Patients can also find support and treatment topics. For example, patients can receive help in understanding their diagnosis, find and pay for treatments. Lastly, there are tools that help cope with cancer treatments.
