Cancer During Pregnancy

(Jones) That is four in ten babies that never get to see the light of day. And that isn’t even counting the illegal or accidental abortions that also occur in the U.S. All of this occurs because of one decision that is far from simple, life or death. That decision is ultimately up to the mother carrying the baby, except for the few states which have laws stating a parental guardian must agree if the mother to be is a minor. But that decision is not one that should ever be taken lightly. Abortion has becomes well known, and is sure to start an argument between two disagreeing people.

Depression can be caused by the abortion which can lead to suicide. It is said that in the year after the women gets an abortion that there is a 60 percent chance they will die from natural causes, They are seven times more likely to commit suicide and fourteen percent more likely to be killed. (“Abortion Risks par. 2 & 5) Different types of cancers can also be caused by getting an abortion. Those who get one abortion have a 2.3 higher risk of getting ovarian cancer than those who have not gotten one.

Statistics show that 4 in 10 pregnancies are terminated by abortions. Each year, two percent of women aged 15–44 have an abortion People against abortion might say that the government should take the right of it being the woman’s choice to choose to abort or continue with the pregnancy. Those people for abortion might say that the government should have no say in the woman’s choice. Abortion is an issue that many people wonder whether or not it can be justified. Can taking a life of an unborn child possibly be a good thing?

Banning abortion, put women at a higher risk of going out and finding illegal way to have the procedure done (“Abortion Information” 1). Once abortion became illegal in the United States 1.2 million abortions were preformed illegally. Dangerous attempts have been made by women to preform their own abortion, or have them done by unskilled surgeons often with dangerous instruments and sometimes in unsanitary conditions. Serious complication from unsafe abortion included, “perforations of the uterus, retained placentas, severe bleeding, cervical wounds, and rampant infections” (Currie 17.) Abortion has become safer over the years and should be legalized in every state in the United States; abortion should also be kept private between the client and doctor.

There are also medications that prevent a woman from ovulating after having unprotected sex, thus eliminating conception and the need for a medical abortion. Ulipristal is given as a one-time, 30-mg dose within 5 days of intercourse to delay the release of mature egg. (Bature, 2012). These medications, in my opinion, are the better choice than having an abortion of a live fetus.
