Canada's Fight Against Terrorism

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines terrorism as “the use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a political goal” (“Terrorism”). Terrorism is a problem that all countries should be concerned with. Canada has been one of the countries that are concerned with the safety of people against terrorist attacks. Canada is very concerned with the issue of terrorism, it has a very specific position of counter-terrorism, it believes that violent extremists are the leading cause of terrorism, it has ways that the international community should respond, and it is willing to contribute to make the problem of terrorism end.
On the topic of terrorism, Canada is not impervious to the issue of terrorism. Not only are there international terrorists in Canada but there are domestic terrorists. These terrorists are active in terrorist activities within the borders of Canada and they support terrorism in other countries (“Building Resilience Against Terrorism: Canada’s Counter-terrorism Strategy”). Terrorism has been a concern for a while. Canada is not only concerned with the domestic threats against them, but they are also concerned with the attacks on the United States, Madrid, London, Bali, and Amsterdam (“Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations”).
Furthermore, Canada has taken a counter-terrorism position. Canada has created a Counter-Terrorism Capacity Building (CTCB) Program. This allows Canada to help other states to prevent terrorism and respond to terrorist activity according to international counter-terrorism (“Counter-Terrorism Capacity Building Assistance”). Canada provides this Program to share its expertise to other countries in areas such as anti-terrorism funding, border securi...

...d the contributions of the Canadian government. Canada is not only distressed by domestic terrorism, but it is concerned with international terrorism. By creating a strategy to deal with terrorism, Canada is taking many steps to end terrorism. Also, through international collaborations and conventions, Canada has faith that the UN and its members will be able to end terrorism.
