Although the notion of being a camp nurse may summon up ideas of tranquil settings and a few weeks away from a "real" career, the truth is that the multidimensional role of the camp nurse is an exhilarating and thought-provoking to even the most knowledgeable nurse. The nurse must be equipped to deliver routine and emergency care to youngsters and the staff, screen children with chronic illnesses, train campers and staff on precautionary health matters, and work as a team with camp managers to implement rules that decrease the threat of harm or sickness. The camp nurse must have flexibility, critical thinking and problem solving expertise, as well as with a bit of humor and creativeness. The camp nurse must endorse and safeguard the health of the whole camp community. Children and staff at camps accredited by the American Camp Association are required to submit a current health history and physical exam.
As a matter of fact, The Association of Camp Nurses, founded in the 1980’s and is a specialized nursing association who ensure coming together to piece awareness as well as skill to guarantee the excellence of camp programs. The mission of ACN is “to develop and provide leadership that advances camp nursing practice for a healthier camping community” (Chrissy Feele, acn.org 2014).
Furthermore, The Association of Camp Nurses arose as a newssheet created by Jeanne Otto, “a New England camp nurse who documented the necessity for camp nurses to group together. The early stages in expending a posting list and newssheet started an additional official ritual. Otto's literatures, booklets and meetings offer an opening into the formation of the association and the skills of camp nurses then and now.”( Baird, 2012, Pg19)

Altogether, my perspective on this affiliation embraces the importance of education and safety across all of the United stated. The founder has surfaced a great importance to what may have been over looked. Furthermore, being that most children engage in camp experiences at some time in their life; as youngsters with the ability to absorb information like a sponge as well as being risk takers, it is imperative to hold education and safety as a high quality of a camp experience. Moreover, is the education of communicable disease along with prevention of outdoors dangers as I had mentioned before the West Nile Virus. In conclusion, I view the volunteers as inspirational people that bring knowledge to others, but most importantly benefiting the children.

Nursing’s development from an occupation to a profession follows the devotion and sacrifice of many amazing women throughout history. Considered to be one of the oldest professions, women have performed what could be considered nursing duties since the beginning of time. The first camp is offered during the first week of July, and it is a week-long camp designed for adults with developmental disabilities. The second camp offered is called RAD Jr. This is also a week long, but is directed towards fir children ranging from the ages 4 to 17. Although this camp is for kids and teenager, they still participate in all of the same activities that is done at the camp for adults. The third camp offered during the year, often takes place during the end of October. This is a weekend long camp called Ace, and is used as filler for the campers between then and the summer. This weekend camp is done on a much smaller scale with fewer campers and counselors, and because of this the activities are not as extravagant as the summer

The lessons I had learned from previous summer camps contributed greatly to this camp's success. At the age of thirteen, I first ran a camp for eight children. The next year a friend and I co-managed a camp for twenty children at a small school campus. Finally at the age of fifteen I created my most challenging summer camp with thirty-five children. In just three years the size of my camp tripled and so did the life lessons. I not only carried the responsibility for my own "bunk," but with my co-manager I hired other counselors, arranged busing to and from field trips, managed a $15,000 budget, and ensured that thirty-five children had a fun summer.
The relationship between young people and nonprofits can be the start of a significant change in our community, and should be a reciprocal and powerful educational experience. An open-minded and encouraging flow of communication between organizations and community members can be the launchpad for the social and environmental change organizations talk about and try for every day. Together, we can make change – not just a semblance of idealism, but reality, as well.
