Buck goes from being the dog in command at Judges Ranch that takes care of kids, hunting with Judge and swimming to a sled dog in very cold harsh conditions carrying hundreds of pounds. How? Well Manuel the gardener likes betting and he sells Buck to a stranger. Buck changes in many ways. One way is that he lost his pride from commander to a obedient dog. Also because he is limited to his normal supply of food and water.
She is a decoy for the wolf pack, remarks Henry, luring the sled dogs away as food for the pack. After much discussion, the men decide it would be prudent to use some of the remaining ammunition to take care of the troublesome she-wolf. Left with only three dogs, the men start out the next morning only to meet more catastrophe as the sled overturns on a bad price of trail. Stuck between a tree trunk and a large rock, the men are forced to unleash the dogs to straighten the sled.
Buck, along with other dogs, was purchased by Francois and Perrault, dispatchers for the Canadian government, and transported by ship to Alaska. Buck soon came to respect his French Canadian masters. But life among the dogs was savage; no law existed but that of fang and force. The first day, Buck looked on as one of his shipmates, downed in a fight, was savagely killed by the anxious pack of dogs. Thus he learned that in the event of a fight, he must always stay on his feet.
During Jack London’s life he has written many great novels, perhaps the greatest was White Fang. In 1906 he wrote the legendary novel about a stray wolf reverting to domestication. The majority of this book concerns White Fangs’ struggles with savage nature, Indians, dogs and white men. However, we also see White Fang is tamed by love and turns from a savage wolf into a loving and domesticated dog. White Fang begins with two men traveling through the artic with a dog team and sled, followed by a pack of famished wolves who pick off the dogs, one by one at night and eventually gets one of the men.
They learned quickly how hard and scary this would be. Other dogs being used were wild wolves that would tear the new dogs apart if they had the chance. Buck and eight other dogs were sold to Perrault and Francois. Buck knew he needed to learn how to survive fast. One of the dogs, Spitz, who was the leader was a wolf and very mean.
Buck is then sold to two French men, Francois and Perrault, and they bring him to the Klondike region of Canada and train him there to be a sled dog. As he is transitioning into this new life, whether he likes it or not, he is being dominated by another sled dog named Spitz. Eventually Buck decides he’s had enough and challenges Spitz to a fight. Spitz proudly and happily takes the offer and in the end, dies in the fight. Buck is next owned by a Scottish half-breed who is working in mail-service delivering items to the mining areas.
By killing Spitz, he gains a supreme air, and in turn an adaptation against the law of the fang. A third example surfaces during Buck's leadership. The fledgling dog, to Francios and Perrault, cannot work up to par for the lead. So Buck conducts himself as a master sled dog, reaching Francios and Perrault's goals, conforming to the team. The group plows through snow reaching at least forty miles a day.
When Hal, Charles, and Mercedes own Buck and the other dogs, Hal keeps whipping the dogs so the dogs will run faster. Dog fighting started in the 1860`s when men were looking for a cheap sport to watch. They started fighting bull dogs that were used as hunting dogs.
