“When I look at a person, I see a person-not a rank, not a rank, not a class, not a title.” Criss Jami. The movie Crash explores and portrays some of the stereotypes that exist in Society. A stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or place or even an object. Racial, sexual and gender remarks are the biggest stereotypes that exist in today’s world. The producers of the movie do a good job of portraying some of the stereotypes that certain races have for others. In most cases stereotypes are not even true and it is better to avoid them. I personally think that stereotypes are so useless and ignorant that people sometimes use them to express their hatred and anger to people and places they apply them to. I think this way because I have personally been a victim to stereotypes and discrimination many times. Coming from Africa, I had never heard of a word called stereotype and what it means. I first learned of it in the United States and after doing research about it and of course being victim to it, I was like, this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. How can someone who does not know any thing about me judge and label me as he/she wishes, I think it is very insensitive. Where am from we do not have anything such as stereotypes, we do not judge people so this was new and shocking to me.
I first heard of a stereotype in high school, I was in a gym class and we were told to play a basketball game, I didn't even bother to pick a side because I had never played basketball or watched a basketball game. I didn't know where to start and was not interested in learning to play either, it’s not my thing. As i was seated on the bleachers, one kid came over to me and asked why i...

... hey, stop right there, I don't want any problems” because he thought i was reaching for a gun and was going to carjack him. Stereotypes are wrong.
I don't understand why people use stereotypes but they are very bad and can have dangerous consequences. In the movie Crash, officer Tom Hansen shot Peter because he thought that he has a gun yet he was just reaching for his statue and it was because of a stereotype that black males always carry guns and can shoot any living creature. Many innocent people have lost their lives because of stereotypes that they have guns are hence dangerous. The most recent example is Trayvon martin who was shot unarmed. I think the producers of the movie Crash do a good job of bringing awareness to how bad stereotypes and discrimination can be. I believe that no man has the right to judge another so stereotypes should be avoided.
