The assistance that the war veterans receive in Canada today is considered one of the best in the world. With assistance programs that provide support to the veterans in the form of attentive health care, health insurance, health related travel expenses, assisted living, career training, rehabilitation, financial benefits, and much more. But, this wasn’t always the case with the Veterans Assistance Commission in Canada. Very little was done prior to WW1, for the war veterans. Even though much difference was promised and greater commitments were made by the Canadian government during and after the First World War, it still was not nearly enough. Pensions were denied to deserving candidates, assistance was provided to many in a form that was nowhere near enough to start a new life, and because of the great depression it was even harder for the veterans to make a living.

All together, they form an area about the size of Montana. To the west, the sea of Japan separates it from its nearest neighbors, Korea and China. To the east lies the Pacific ocean. Japan has a moderate climate. Summers are nice. Winters are mild, with heavy snowfall limited to the north. Japan makes crops due to rain in the summer.
Peacekeeping has played a significant role in defining and shaping the country that Canada is today. Canada’s role used to be viewed by many as insufficient in the major issues which regarded the traditional powers of the world. Later on Canada began to establish some forms of credibility as they were fighting for a common good of the world’s nations and not just their allies. Recently since the year 1995 the role that Canada plays in the united nations peacekeeping efforts has significantly dropped, a large part of this was as a result of UN military missions through NATO as opposed to strictly just the UN. Due to this the role that this country has played in peacekeeping missions has decreased significantly compared to what it used to be.

1: The freedoms guaranteed by the fourth amendment are the most vulnerable to ethics violations in responses to terrorism. In fact they have already been threatened with the Patriot Act(Beau), NSA wiretapping(Sage), and the Freedom Act(Destiny). All of these acts have seen the United States Government be able to search through someone’s history without a warrant. The 4th Amendment States, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated”, and that “no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause”. This clear violation of the fourth amendment put Americans rights at risk. It may have seemed right at the time, but looking back we cannot watch everyone just to catch a few people who are doing the wrong thing.
Organizations such as a Newfoundland Patriotic Association (NPA), and The Red Cross stepped up to relieve wartime tensions. The NPA was comprised of Veterans from the First World War, prominent citizens and politicians. The group’s mission was to create social services that promoted recruitment for military service and supported dependents of soldiers serving overseas. In addition, they ensured that service member returning from their duties had pensions, and work programs. The Red Cross’ mission was to care for the survivors of military combat. They donated medical supplies to local hospital, provided in home care for seriously injured veteran, offer first aid classes, and conducted blood

The Salvation Army has a wide array of strengths including: 1) Professional networking; a channel through which ideas, resources and services can be exchanged between Salvation Army and other non-profit organizations 2) Global notoriety; the Salvation Army is a world-wide organization, sustained primarily through government funds and public donations 3) Longevity; a demonstrated history of success. The reformation of the Charity Organizations didn’t grant relief themselves however they served as a resource to simplify the transaction of relief to relief applicants by: maintaining relief applicant requests, records of the aid given to them, and referring those worthy or unworthy to the proper agencies (Trattner, 1999). Their goal was to eradicate fraud and duplicity of services while also maintaining efficiency and treating poverty. The charity organization movement intended to treat poverty by enacting “friendly visitors” to look into each case and define the cause of destitution while also watching for overlapping relief. These “friendly visitors” and their investigations were the cornerstone of the Charity Organization Society’s (C.O.S) treatment; granting aid without investigation was like giving medicine without diagnosis (Trattner, 1999).
Though, the concept of community service is not very new, its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and support millions of young people all over the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well as adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society.
