The purpose I present about this topic is to introduce and help everyone to gain further knowledge about pasta. Most people know what pasta is, but what about the history. I will also explain the benefits of pasta, the basic ways of making pasta and what some pasta dishes are.
What exactly is pasta? Simply put, pasta is a food, but a delicious one at that. People around the world eat pasta, and it is a part of many meals. It is made from durum wheat semolina, which is then mixed with water, made into shapes and then dried or cooked fresh. Sometimes pasta contains other ingredients like eggs or vegetables. These ingredients can be mixed into the dough and dried, like in egg pasta, or they can be added as a filling, like in tortellini. Pasta is served with many different foods and sauces such as beans, cheese, clams, fish, meat, olive oil, shrimp, and tomatoes. Pasta is made in many different shapes. Some are long strings, like spaghetti and linguini. There are hundreds of different shapes including bow ties, ribbons, shells, stars, and wagon wheels. There are also filled pastas, like tortellini, where the pasta is wrapped around the cheese, meat, or vegetables.
People have eaten pasta for a very, very long time. Wheat flour was one of the first foods of our ancestors. To make the flour, they would crush the kernels of wheat between two rocks. Then they would mix the flour with water and cook it. We know all this from drawings on cave walls and other surfaces. The ancestors of Italians, known as Etruscans, had drawings that show them making a food from wheat that looks like pasta. The Italians then made a food they called ‘lagana’ which is now known as ‘pasta’. They then travelled to many different countries, taking pasta with them...
