My group proposed a new marathon in 2014 to the City Council of Chicago. The proposed marathon is titled, CARA’s Midnight Chicago Marathon 2014. As race director, I will expand as to why I will continue to include Chicago’s Chinatown in the marathon’s course and the non-profit organization that will represent the community of Chinatown.
As the new race director, I learned from Carey Pinkowski. What was remarkable about Pinkowski is his background in running. In his early years, he was involved in his high school cross-country and track team in Indiana. To finish off his high-school athletic career, he won two Indiana state championships in the mile and cross-country. As a result, his athletic career continued to sprout after high school when attending Villanova University on an athletic scholarship. From there his career sparked. In fact, in 1983, he successfully completed the marathon in twenty-fifth place and had a finish time of 2:20:48. Fortunately, Pinkowski’s friend, who was working for Adidas at the time, asked him to help with promotional consulting work. ...marathon will be greatly benefitting Chicago’s large Asian community of Chinatown. This marathon will hopefully continue to be a world-class event, which is why I emphasize diversity. Chicago is an urban metropolis and has remarkable attractions, but what makes Chicago a world-class city is it’s cultural melting pot. Chinatown is also home to a non-profit organization, Project: VISION that will be a part of the Midnight Marathon as a charity. Chicago is home to many people of different backgrounds and culture, which is why I chose to incorporate Chinatown in the course of the Midnight Marathon. The community of Chinatown is one ingredient of Chicago’s immense melting pot. All in all, since Pinkowski did a fantastic job of popularizing and putting the Chicago Marathon in order, I will definitely continue to use his preparation and strategy of organizing the marathon.
