According to appendix C the common core standards were developed to ensure that teachers meet the necessities of English learning students. The CA ELD Standards were developed after having done extensive research to ensure the students are more likely to have a positive outcome. Students and teachers were placed into environments to help determine what approaches would be most affective. In Addition to using the research to create the CA ELD Standards the CCSS were also used as a base to help guide what things play an important role in students learning. Some of the basic points that the CA ELD Standards focus on are Literacy, History, Social Studies, and Science. According to the research a form of challenging a student can be by having them interact and discuss a specific idea with other students in small groups. For example, while being small groups during class the EL student might be exposed to new academic words during the discussion. Affective intermingling can help acquire academic language and the develop of social skills. Educators play an important role in helping students understand what their expectations about the discussion they are having in class. Not many students go into school with the ability to interacting with others which can cause a delay in students EL if not addressed. A positive way to have students engage in a discussion is by having them in small groups so they more likely to feel comfortable and give them specific instructions so they are clear on what the objective of the discussion activity is. Lastly, educators can also provide students with questions that help promote discussion amongst the students. For example, one could have give students a list of vocab words and definitions make sure they understand the words and ask of them to discuss how the terms play an important role in their lives and why the terms are important to learn. Then students would be learning new vocabulary words and relating how and why the terms are important in their everyday
