With the manufacturer and model number of the motherboard, processor, and memory of any system a consumer can determine what requirements the system has for upgrading the memory. To begin a consumer needs to locate these specifications of their system. If the system is pre-built by a company such as Dell or HP a sticker with the computers manufacturer and model number will most likely be displayed on the outside of the computer or included in the documentation provided at the time of purchase. Flashbulb memory is when a person learns or experiences a very surprising and emotional arousing events (Matlin, 155). As it is a long lasting memory that people report vivid details about a traumatic event, it has been the subjects of recent scientific studies. Recent findings have mentioned a relationship between flashbulb memory and the September 11, 2001 attack. An article published in the American Psychological Association entitled “Seared in Our Memories” written by Bridget Murray Law analyzes different studies on the topic to explore how accurate people vividly remember about the 9/11 attack, and on how much is accurate or fabricated through various encounters. Senility is not a medical condition; it is not normal, natural, or inevitable with aging; it is not limited to older people either. The term senility is replaced in most of my pertinent research by the medical term dementia, which seems to describe a group of symptoms that represent a change or deterioration from an individual's previous level of functioning (Tueth, 1995). Dementia has specific causes, which impair long-term memory and quite relevantly;: language, judgment, spatial perception, behavior, and often personality, interfering with normal social and occupational functioning.

Flashbulb memory is not the memory for the event itself, but it’s the memory of how the person heard about the specific event (Goldstein, 2011, p. 209). This means that a flashbulb memory includes where you were and what you were doing when you found out about a tragic event (Goldstein, 2011, p. 209). Some key attributes of flashbulb memories are that they are both remembered for long periods of time and are exceedingly vivid (Goldstein, 2011, p. 209). A great way to describe flashbulb memories is to compare them to a photo that never fades, proving how relevant these memories are to those who have them (Goldstein, 2011, p. 209).
There are many misconceptions about memory that influences the strength of eye witness testimonies in court cases. Law enforcement officers, judges, and the general public believe that human memory works like a video camera so everything people remember must be true and accurate. If the person recalling the memory has high confidence in the accuracy of the memory, even if it were an adult recalling a childhood event, the memory is more likely to be believed as true. However, memory must be encoded and retrieved. During the retrieval process, there are factors that may influence the accuracy of the memory that is actually remembered. Memory has been studied vigorously throughout the last couple of decades. Researchers have been especially interested in what makes lasting memories. In one’s lifetime, there are many moments and not every memory is given an equal weight.
Morison’s (2004) essay, “Gunfire at Sea: A Case Study in Innovation”, is a commentary on the social implications of technological change that surrounded the introduction of continuous-aim firing in both the British and American navies. Morison discusses (1) conditions that foster technological innovation, (2) reactions to the changes produced by innovation, and (3) the elements of an adaptive society. The Cogan and Burgelman (2004) case, “Intel Corporation: The DRAM Decision”, paired with the aforementioned reading, recounts Intel’s encounter with technological change and how they came to exemplify the idea of an adaptive society.
We have no control over the most important thing to us. Memory affects everything about us, what we think, how we feel, and even what we dream about because we are memories. Memory has to do with many things inside us and in our brains such as why we forget, our childhood memories, our dreams and even the lies that we make us because we cannot remember otherwise. We cannot live without memories, they make us up entirely.
Memory is very important in everyone’s lives. Without the previous memory, or memory of the past, probably most of people can’t even think about what the future has in store. People wouldn’t be able to remember what they did yesterday, today, or tomorrow. Without it, people can’t learn new things, or anything at all. Learning would be futile and void without memory.
According to Sternberg (1999), memory is the extraction of past experiences for information to be used in the present. The retrieval of memory is essential in every aspect of daily life, whether it is for academics, work or social purposes. However, many often take memory for granted and assume that it can be relied on because of how realistic it appears in the mind. This form of memory is also known as flashbulb memory. (Brown and Kulik, 1977). The question of whether our memory is reliably accurate has been shown to have implications in providing precise details of past events. (The British Psychological Association, 2011). In this essay, I would put forth arguments that human memory, in fact, is not completely reliable in providing accurate depictions of our past experiences. Evidence can be seen in the following two studies that support these arguments by examining episodic memory in humans. The first study is by Loftus and Pickrell (1995) who found that memory can be modified by suggestions. The second study is by Naveh-Benjamin and Craik (1995) who found that there is a predisposition for memory to decline with increasing age.
“I have a terrible memory”. How often have you heard a person say this statement? A human’s memory is an amazing and interesting hidden wonder that has been a major topic neuroscientists have been studying for many years. One of the first to propose an idea on how memory works was Plato. “Plato proposed that impressions are made upon the brain much as a stylus marks a wax tablet” (Yepsen 148). Karl Lashley, a neuropsychologist, has more recently searched for proof by picking apart rats’ brains. He had stated that memories were electrical impressions that had been stored. Even more recently than Lashley’s theory, it was theorized that memories are placed in the brain as three-dimensional structures. Even though there is not one specific agreement on what memory is, experts have seemed to come to a consensus on why memories are either chosen for withholding or allowed to fade. The consensus was that a fragment of information has to go through three stages for it to be stored over a long period of time (Yepsen 148). The three different stages are sensory memory, short-term memory, and long-term memory (“Memory Storage”). After many years of medical research and a large number of theories, the question still remains on how the memory works (Yepsen 147). Even though the exact answer cannot be given on how memory works, researchers have found some answers by studying the neurologic aspects, sensory memory, short-term memory, long-term memory, and how a person can improve their memory.
