Gathering information on a system is crucial to purchasing the correct memory to run in a system. With the manufacturer and model number of the motherboard, processor, and memory of any system a consumer can determine what requirements the system has for upgrading the memory. To begin a consumer needs to locate these specifications of their system. If the system is pre-built by a company such as Dell or HP a sticker with the computers manufacturer and model number will most likely be displayed on the outside of the computer or included in the documentation provided at the time of purchase. With this model number a consumer can either contact a computer sales representative or using a search engine, search the model number to obtain their computer specifications. However, if the computer lacks this information or is custom built it will require looking inside the computer or consulting an order history to obtain the manufacturer and model number for each part.
