Essay Question 2: In reviewing the last five years, describe a situation in which you felt particularly effective as a member of team. (Limit 500 words)
Picture an environment in which a 14 to 16 work day was the norm rather than the exception and where working through the night was as common as weekly status meetings. These were the realities of a Deloitte Consulting engagement I had worked on at Deutsche Bank. My first roll was to be part of the testing team. Since the system was to “go live” in 3 months the pressure was on to ensure that all the bugs in the system would be found and fixed. This put considerable stress on the team. The team didn’t have enough time to give me an overview of the project. They basically gave me the project blueprints to review. This wouldn’t be the course...
Every parent wants their child to go to college in order to gain a higher level of learning, but is this truly the best option? In recent years, many have begun to question whether or not a college education is necessary in today’s world. It’s not. College is not worth its cost because of its financial burdens, lack of teaching hands on experience, and its very particular methods that don’t work with some people.
In this report, I will be describing my role in helping the team meet its goal by identifying HR issues the Line managers would need to consider and outlining an action plan to discuss these matters. Articulate a paradigm change in the way your role/function operated on a day to day basis. How did you react and what were the keys to your success in adapting to the change, if in fact you were able to?
In conclusion I believe that I have developed both skills working with others and improving your own learning and performance. But I need to work on these skills so I can use them in a more effective way; and I also recognise that I will not develop these in a short period of time. I will have to work on the strategies I have mentioned throughout the assignment in order to improve these skills.
Teamwork. Did the individual work well with other team members? Did he/she willingly accept and fulfill individual role within the team?
Two things that went well for me during this project were that I learned a lot more about March Madness and brackets during this project. I also met new people in my group and my new friends. Two things that went well for my group was that we all worked together really well and even though we did not win the championship we tried really hard. For my group, I helped wherever I was needed. I helped research our criteria and pick teams, I helped draw our bracket, and also helped write our reasonings for the winners of each round. I also helped present and argue for our team during presentations. Two things that did not go well for me during this project were that I didn’t know how a bracket worked and what teams played who. I also was confused towards the beginning of the project. Two things that did not go well for my group were that we did not make it to the final two and we did not win the national championship.
What have you done in the past to contribute toward a teamwork environment? Currently I work on smaller teams of entrepreneurial minded people striving to lay the groundwork for solid business foundation. We produce work that is goal oriented and I give to the balance of ideas so results can only be delivered by committee. I use my strengths in full as an integral part of this team, which helps to compensate for each other's weaknesses. For example, recently one of my partners was having some difficulty conceiving a promotional item that needed to get out quickly. I suggested a few things to get him stimulated. My different personality type balanced and complemented his, as we worked to meet the deadlines. The result was something neither of us expected and was roundly complimented for its scope and creativity. This assignment was definitely his responsibility to complete, however I deemed it in both of our interests to get something real done, otherwise the overall success of the business could be hurt, thus affecting me and my co-workers. Another good example of my contribution to teams would be my volunteered effort with various community organizations. Recently I attended an open orientation for people who were interested in starting community gardens. During the course of the event I met with like-minded but diverse people. We developed a plan to raise funds and work toward the goal of establishing a sustainable community garden. My contribution was and now is to offer clarity in who is responsible for what and avoid overlapping authority. I noticed a risk recently where two team members were competing for control of a certain area. My solution was to divide that area into two distinct parts and give each complete control in ...
...allenged and successful. Our leader believed in our team and we believed in ourselves. I know I have learned from every work experience but I was so fortunate to work with such a strong and influential leader early in my career. It has created a lasting effect that I have learned from and tried to emulate.
There was a huge and a high pressure government project which had to be completed in a short span of time. It had several teams associated with different
They helped me speak up in challenging situations, but sometimes there were cases in which I did not speak up. In an instance where I did speak up, there was an extremely positive outcome from it. In my AV tech job at my high school, we as a team used school equipment to get our work done. However, this school equipment was severely outdated and sometimes it was a trouble to get even the slightest bit of work done. There was talk since I was a sophomore that we should replace this equipment, but no one stepped up to the school board to ask for newer equipment. When I became a senior and I received the position of head of AV tech, I realized that this needed to change. I went to the schoolboard and requested at least a part of the equipment to be replaced, especially the laptop and a few microphones. The board accepted this proposal and soon after we received the new equipment and work became much easier. The reason I spoke up was because there were situational and group factors present. We as a group were not able to be efficient in situations where there were events going on. We were always fearful of something not working during the actual event and us ruining it. However, this was changed and with this outcome, me and the entire team of AV tech were extremely grateful and relieved. Although I did speak up here and it ended up in a positive outcome, there were
