The significant role of employees in attaining the goals and objectives of the organisation has been recognised both by practitioners and scholars (Floyd & Wooldridge, 1997; Li, Guohai & Eppler, 2008; Fox, Donohue & Wu, 2007). The change in the appreciation of the role of employees in organisation has been precipitated by several factors, but one of the most important elements which have influenced the change is globalisation. Globalisation is a contemporary phenomenon (Soros, 2002). It has influenced almost all facets of contemporary life (Morgan, 2003). As such, it has been defined in several ways (Suarez-Orozco & Qin-Hilliard, 2004). However, the common understanding of globalisation is that it concerns economic changes adopted by nation-states as they enter the global market (Soros, 2002). Globalisation is generally understood as the removal of economic barriers to trade among nations, thereby, allowing the freer movements of goods, services, products, capital, knowledge, foreign investments and people (Soros, 2002; Balakrishnan, 2003; Fischer, 2003). It has been noted, that as globalisation drives economic changes, changes in the economic policies and fundamental principles underlying nation-states economic trading relations with other countries are also undertaken(Peet, 2003).
In this regard, through globalisation, the global market economy has been opened, thus, making the world accessible and smaller at the same time. There is no doubt that Nike has a strong reputation and innovation image in the sport business industry. However, before 1990, Nike was marked as a symbol of slave salary, work over time and environmental shortcuts (The Guardian, 2013c; Balch, 2012). Moreover, climate change had become a global issue. In the 1990s, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) increased the pressures on governments which formulated regulation on corporate activities to address environmental issues (Kolk and Pinkse, 2009). Then Nike also aware this issue because these environmental changes impact on the revenue of clothing industry (Balch, 2012).
With the increased monitoring and enforcement of labour practices; Nike being in the public spotlight and subject to negative publicity on their subcontracted factories is forced to readjust the working conditions of their cross ocean factory workers to abide with proper regulations. This has caused Nike to modify their factory standards and employee working conditions by; limiting the maximum hours worked a week, implementing proper ventilation systems to filter out toxic fumes, increase worker access to protective equipment, and increase the capacity of medical facilities and medical staff for their workers.

Profitability As the Table 1 showed above, NIKE has the steady ascending trend in profitability ratios. NIKE’s gross margin improved about 2.4%, from 2013’s 43.60% to 2015’s 46.00%. Gross profit margin measures a company’s ability to control costs and set sales prices for customers. The ratio shows that NIKE has stable performance on this ability. NIKE’s improved gross margin can be attributed to two factors, higher average net selling prices and growth in higher-margin direct-to-customer business (NIKE 10-K, 2015).

Although, localization and globalization will continue co-existing, globalization will continue to increasingly dominate over time because most countries are generally leading to and becoming more accepting of the idea of globalization. In conclusion, the benefits gained by globalization are the most important to people's lives because it aides in the learning process of people expanding their horizons and understanding the benefits to countries, organizations, and groups working together. Although losing some part of one's national identity can be a disadvantage at times, the advantages of being able to work together and help each other in a globally integrated world are much more.
