Burwood Summary
Burwood has a lot to offer anyone who wants to live in the midst of two great shopping precincts, several cafes and restaurants with diverse cuisines, great schools that cater to kids from newborns to Year 12, and have handy access to public transportation. Burwood's streets are lined with heritage-listed Federation homes, modern townhouses, beautiful Art Deco apartments, and contemporary homes and apartments. Some blocks of Burwood have been redeveloped, but there are still plenty of homes there ready for new owners. The schools in Burwood are excellent and are dedicated to high standards of education. The Woodstock Community Centre building is heritage listed and used for a variety of local events and personal celebrations. Woodstock Park has two nice playgrounds, barbecue facilities, picnic tables, benches, and a childcare centre. Some of the local activities include the Heart Foundation Walking groups, the Burwood Seniors Computer Club, the All Nations Bushwalkers, and others. This park and community centre are a major part of the Burwood suburb.
The Woodstock Park and Community Centre area is the main parkland in the area. There are a couple of small neighbourhood playgrounds in Burwood.

Hilltop Neighborhood House is a private preschool that provides care for children 6 weeks old to 5 years old. Hilltop offers a Kindergarten Readiness program that prepares children for Kindergarten. They prepare children for Kindergarten by provide them the tools to be successful in their later education. Hilltop teaches the children social and listening skills. This goes along with Hilltop’s mission to help children succeed as an individual. This program thrives on the diversity that Hilltop offers. 84% of the children that Hilltop serves are from low income families. Along with serving a large portion of low income families, they also serve a large portion of minorities and single parent homes. Hilltop reaches out to these populations by offering scholarships so Hilltop is affordable to all. Hilltop also accepts the Childcare Development Vouchers (CCDF) which further allows for all populations to attend Hilltop.
In the summer of 1969, a music festival called, “Woodstock”, took place for three straight days in Upstate, New York, with thirty-two musical acts playing, and 500,000 people from around the world coming to join this musical, peaceful movement. Woodstock started out being a small concert, created to locally promote peace in the world, by the power of music and its lyrics. Now, Woodstock is still being celebrated over 40 years later. The chaotic political climate that the ‘baby boomers’ were growing up in is most likely the reason for this event becoming of such an importance to the world. The violence of the Vietnam War, protests at Kent State and the Democratic Convention, and the assassinations contributed to an ‘out of control’ world. The fact that so many people came to Woodstock and were able to latch onto the ideals of peace, love, and community became a wonderful, joyous symbol to this generation. This three day music festival represented the ideal for baby boomers during a chaotic political time.

Woodstock was a free 3 day concert held in Max Yasgur's 600 acre dairy farm in Bethel, New York (Statement on the Historical and Cultural Significance of the 1969 Woodstock Festival Site). What was first made to be a recording studio for the community of Woodstock became an iconic American image (Gerdes, Louise 16). Woodstock was a defining moment in American history because it influenced counter culture and changed the lives of the younger generation that we see today.
In the town of Woodstock, local residents became fearful about the possibility of a hippie invasion. The location was changed from the village of Woodstock, to the town of Wallkill, then finally to a farm at White Lake in the town of Bethel. The name was retained. They rented a 70 acre field from a prominent local dairy farmer, Max Yasgur, who owned land about 48 miles from Woodstock, in Bethel.

There is no better feeling in this world than to be outdoors with nature, especially when there are numerous activities to dabble in. Often times people take for granted the sentimental value that they can experience by simply walking through a park. God created the Earth to be beautiful and peaceful, and people need to keep it that way. I have always shared a love of the outdoors with my dad and my brother. We have gone on numerous camping, hiking, fishing, and star-gazing trips ever since I can remember. It was no surprise to me when my dad decided to buy a lake house on Hyco Lake, right outside of Roxboro. We got a really good deal on the house, so my dad decided that Hyco Lake was the perfect spot.

The community consists of five schools; two elementary and three high school both public and charter schools. The oldest looking school within the community is Mary McLeod Bethune School consisting of broken down fences, dirt playground, and older looking buildings (www.googlemaps.com, 2016). The two elementary schools also house preschools for toddlers, Capitol Elementary and Mary McLeod School, with one additional day care, Star Bright Preschool located on a busy street within the community (www.googlemaps.com, 2016). Finally, for the older community member, Arizona State University has a downtown Phoenix campus within the neighboring zip code for those seeking continued education needs. The CHN can use these schools to host health fairs and immunization clinics for children as well as education about childhood safety; such as, seatbelt usage, car seats, bike helmets, and exercise and healthy eating
Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is a set of principles on how we should go about our everyday lives. It is a collection of ideas that should be followed to live a just life; to live how God would want you to. The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is another set of principles that explain how we can ethically and competently respect all people and their needs. Both of these ideas are apparent in many schooling systems throughout America. CST and CEC are very similar, yet very different. Numerous concepts from both are evident in many private as well as public schools throughout the country.

Woodstock was a historic event that was the idea of four men by the names of Michael Lang, John Roberts, Joel Roseman, and Artie Kornfeld. Two of the men, Roberts and Roseman, placed an ad in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal stating "Young men with unlimited capital looking for interesting, legitimate investment opportunities and business propositions" (Spitz, 1979, 13). This ad resulted in the four men getting together and discussing the possibility of a retreat-like recording studio in Woodstock, New York. As we all know now, the idea blew up into a festival that was portrayed in the Academy Award winning documentary "Woodstock."
