Buonarrotti and Da Vinci. Two of the most amazing and historically famous artists of their time. Some would say that Da Vinci's works are timeless, wondrous, and mesmerizing. These same people would call the works of Buonarrotti, groundbreaking, mythical, and elegant. Da Vinci's most famous work being "Mona Lisa". and Buonarotti's being the statue of David. Both works unparalleled and powerful in their conveyance. What both of these artists do a great job of portraying is an idea of classical pieces. Pieces that will forever be treasured and and admired by anyone with the ability to physically see these artpieces. To give background, these two artists were essentially rivals. Both works being created at the same time seem to parallel competition. …show more content…
We also see da vinci is an inventor, engineer, and philosopher. He is very active outside of his artistic life and sketches the anatomy of man. In his works we do see a continuing pattern of paintings that he doesn't stray from. This is a clear difference in the works of that of Da Vinci vs that of Michelangelo. Michelangelo specializes in all aspects of art, visually, painting, sculpting, and architecture also takes on the task of the Pieta. Which is one of my favorite artworks of all time. The attention to detail is emotionally moving. As you can see in the massive sculpture there are folds in the dress of Mary as her son Jesus' body is draped in her arms so realistically. Her eyes closed but her face so disheartened. Their clothing and all objects portrayed in the sculpture itself are all so very realistic. The way Jesus' body is placed in the arms of his mother created an impression in the dress of Mary and Michelangelo portrays this so well. While Michelangelo was one of the best sculptures of his time, he was also a very talented painter. We see in his works of the Sistine chapel, the conversion of Saul, and
Leonardo Da Vinci was one of the most famous artists during the time of the Renaissance, The Mona Lisa for example, was a painting created between 1503 and 1506, it is the most famous painting ever painted. It is a portrait of the young wife of a Florentine silk merchant. It shows a young woman with her famous smile sitting on a balcony high above a landscape.
When analyzing Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks, we can see the different aspects of his personality that allowed him to be so successful. His curiosity, patience, drive, and independent way of thought are the characteristics that made him such an eminent Renaissance man. Having a deep sense of curiosity allowed him to use the world around him to make many discoveries. His patience gave him the ability to create elaborately detailed, intricate works of art, weaponry, and other experiments. What da Vinci envisioned and was determined to create nearly 500 years ago came to fruition years later. Being a visionary, he thought outside of the box, quite independently, and made discoveries that were of great success. A true Renaissance man is a man of
The term “renaissance man” describes an individual who excels in numerous areas and can do many things extremely well. Today, this description lends itself to both men and women who are both scholars and athletes, creative and industrious, and generally highly successful in all they do. While many modern “renaissance individuals” go quietly about their lives being exceptional yet unnoticed, the first renaissance man, Leonardo Da Vinci, made quite a stir and caught the attention and imagination of the fifteenth century world. In his own time, Da Vinci was a renowned artist, scientist and inventor who was celebrated by thinkers, artists and kings alike. And although he lived and worked more than six-hundred years ago, Da Vinci’s artistic and scientific genius continue to inspire and amaze.
Leonardo da Vinci is one of the greatest minds of all time. He is famous for his art, cartography, designs, geology, and studies. Da Vinci thought that art was without a doubt connected to science. But, I’m going to talk a about his artistic achievements, influences, and style.
The pieces of art I will be comparing and contrasting are the three statues of David, by Donatello (Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi), Michelangelo (Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni), and Bernini (Gian Lorenzo Bernini). The statues are modeled after the biblical David, who was destined to become the second king of Israel. Also most famously known as the slayer of the Philistine giant Goliath with a stone and a sling. The sculptures are all based on the same biblical hero, but differ from one another. Each David is unique in its own certain way.
Da Vinci’s work has been so important because it has shown so much uniqueness and diversity for just one artist. His work has influenced other artists to try different styles and not just stick with one thing the whole time, using different styles gives you more options and helps artists find their true potential. Da Vinci is so important to history because he set a path for artist to later come to follow; his work has and always will be known as some of the most unique and best work ever. Da Vinci has helped me as an artist because he shows artists don’t have to just be good at one thing, they can have a wide variety of talents and be successful at all of them.
Michelangelo Buonarroti was one of the top three Italian artists. His work are examples of how great the art was in the High Renaissance Era. Michelangelo’s chalk drawing, Study of a Man, was his analysis of the way he saw the body and the way it was shaped and saw the different positions. By using critical thinking as he created his art, he had the ability to study the way a man looks. He was able to process how the way the body moves and sits.
Although they were rivals, they dabbled in two different types of art mostly. Leonardo was a profound painter with interest in science, whereas Michelangelo found his way around sculptures. He considered sculptures to be the most important aspect in visual arts. Examining Michelangelo’s works throughout time, a resemblance to contemporary society is shown. Major products of Michelangelo include the statue of David and the fresco ceiling of the Sistine Chapel (History, 2010). The combination of imagination and the technical skills produced renaissance sculptures that contain all aspects of accuracy and harmony. The sculpture of David was considered the greatest sculptor to be produced during the renaissance era. When considered the works from the Sistine Chapel ceilings, the psychological insight, intensity, and the physically visual realism are all combined to produce an excellent painting which showed off his ability in paintings as
His painting,” The Last Supper” and the “Mona Lisa” - Have influenced countless artists and made Da Vinci a leading light of the Italian Renaissance.” (Source #1) Leonardo influenced a lot of people just like how he was influenced by Andrea Del Verrocchio. He was,” A man ahead of his future with his sketches of the machines resembling a bicycle, helicopter, a flying based on the physiology of a bat”. (Source #1) He helped create our future today. All of his work was a piece that we use at outside to get
Michelangelo Buonarroti is one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance times, as well as one of the greatest of all time. He did was a painter, a sculptor as well as an architect, excelling in all areas from a young age. Michelangelo’s art was a symbol of the Florence people’s cultural and political power and superiority. Michelangelo thought of himself as a divine being, meaning he thought he was perfection and no one could ever compare. To this day through, in terms of his art, this may hold some truth depending mostly on opinion. He created some of the most magnificent, and most sought after pieces of all time. Some of them are still around today for us to witness including Michelangelo’s Pieta, and one of his most famous Michelangelo’s David.
Leonardo da Vinci and Andy Warhol are legendary in the art world and their masterpieces are one of a kind however when comparing the two the renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci is vastly superior when mastering an art collection.
In Donatello’s and Michelangelo’s David, done in the late 1420’s and 1501. Donatello’s statue was casted in bronze and Michelangelo’sin marble, they both portrayed David before/after the battle with Goliath. These statue were a return to ancient Greece and Rome’s beauty and respect of the body not the soul. Though these David statue’s portrayed a section of the David in the bible it was not meant to connect the real realm with the divine one but it was more of representing the power of Florence as an individual’s liberties and freedom (a humanistic belief). On Leonardo’s Mona Lisa, a painting done in 1503-1516 in Milan (probably the most famous painting in the world). This painting was done with oil on panel. The reason in why this is a humanistic artwork is because of its intention and the portraying of beauty. This painting is not a painting of any goddess but of an ordinary peasant women. Leonardo depicted Mona Lisa as the standard beauty of that time. It represents the philosophy of the humanism by focusing on the human being and realism. It also shows nature, which is shown in the background. Da Vinci’s painting was not to ponder on whether she represented anything divine, but to see the beauty at the
Michelangelo not only created a work that was huge in size, with a beautiful depiction of scenes form the bible, tying in perfectly to describe the rise and fall of mankind, he also mastered his own technique in depicting the human body, To Michelangelo “the body was beautiful not only in its natural form but also in its spiritual and philosophical significance” (Gardner’s 626). The idea of showing the pure beauty of the human form is seen both in the beauty of the art itself with its rarely seen before vivid colors, as well as the idealizing of the human form, showing it off in the most beautiful way. Michelangelo depicted the human form in the most basic way possible, either nude or simply clothed, to display how the human body is quite beautiful even without garments of any kind. It was said that Michelangelo never said himself to be a painter, but rather a sculptor, and this is seen in his amazing way of painting the human figure, with a sculptor’s eye, where humans seem to be very similar to a statue, with extreme attention to the detail in how light and shadow display
The Mona Lisa by Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci is one of the most visited, written about, sung about, and talked about paintings of all time. In the following pages I will give a detailed description of the painting, the historical context surrounding it’s inception, and an in-depth comparison between Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Vincent van Gogh’s Self Portrait.
