When bullying become the topic of discussion, most people just talk about how it affected them in that moment, but what people tend to overlook is the long term causes and changes it can have on a person and their social self. Later in life, many people that were reported to have been bullied, struggle with anxiety and self-confidence and the ones that are the bully normally struggle with alcohol and drug abuse as they get older. Bullying during the childhood years of a person’s life has been known to produce life altering effects on their social self-including drug and alcohol abuse, confidence in social life, and can cause post-traumatic stress disorder.
Many people who have been bullied during a time in their life are reported to have a severe decline in self-confidence and anxiety when they are in large groups. Children that are bullied usually have a hard time dealing with crowds in school because they have severe anxiety over being made fun of in front of others (“Effects of Bullying”, 2017). This can also cause the child to develop a sense of being out casted because of their need to keep themselves out of the way and alone rather than with a group of others. …show more content…

When bullies come to school to make fun of kids, many times they come from a bad at home life where they are abused or neglected, which then in return take it out on other children (Vickers, 2014). The bully must have found their tormenting tactics somewhere. Unfortunately, most of the time that place is in their own home, whether it is from another sibling or even a parent. The bullies also can have a rough home life because they feel that their parents don’t support them or want to help, on the other hand they may feel that their parents won’t understand if they do tell them (Vickers, 2014).
