“We are going to crash!” Laura screamed from the back. My mind was spinning, what was I thinking saying say to stalling the plane, now we are all going to die. We were plummeting down toward the Lake. This is it, I thought, date of death September 13th 2014. Suddenly, the engine roared back to life. Relieve flooded through my veins. Strangely, I wanted nothing more than for the plane to be stalled again. “That was amazing!” I said to Mr. Stacey with a grin.
Earlier that morning at Freemen field airport, Junction City Kansas. Standing in front of a shiny red Piper Tri-Pacer aircraft I was astonished by its enthralling beauty. Another girl (Laura) and I would be flying together with the pilot Mr. Stacey (as he introduced himself). I was thrilled …show more content…

Sure enough down below was a miniature school. As we circled above it the school’s red, white and blue American flag was hardly visible at this height. Laura started taking as many pictures of her school as she could to show her friends. Soon I noticed we were nearing Milford Lake. Mr. Stacey was telling us how certain areas near Fort Riley we aren’t allowed to fly over or you will be shot down. It is restricted military airspace he told us. Now above the lake I could see the plane’s shadow skipping across the water. Below us there are tiny boats on the water.
Just then the plane turned on its side, I grasped my seat for dear life. Laura gasped in the back and Mr. Stacey reassured us not to worry, he was just doing that to turn in a circle and give us a better view of the lake. “What if the plane stalled and crashed while we are above the lake?” I thought. I read that when a plane crashes the impact of hitting the water is like hitting cement. What a way to die. “
“The wheel is called a yoke, take a hold of the one in front of you and fly the plane”Mr. Stacey said to me. I felt paralyzed, me fly the plane? My stomach started to feel nauseous. I quickly declined his offer. “Anybody who rides in the co-pilot seat in my plane must fly also” he …show more content…

This will be an experience I could never forget! The fields below were like a crazy quilts, patches of; green, yellow, reddish, and brown spreading as far one can see. The sky is a vibrant blue color, so beautiful and crisp. The fluffy white clouds are scattered across the blue sky, they are so close now that I feel as if I can just reach out and touch one.
The sound of the radio brought me back to reality. Mr. Stacey was radioing into the airport to ask for permission to land. Given the okay, we circled above the airport decreasing our speed and preparing to land. “This might be a rough landing so hang on” he said to us. And he was right, the turbulence when landing is bumpy. But I did not care, this was fun!
Back on land again all I could think about was going back up. The world was so different up there. It was Leonardo da Vinc that once said, and I quote “When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you will always long to return.” Unquote. Aviation truly enchanted me, there is no going back. My goal is to one day get my pilots license and be able to fly on my own. Moreover, to give others that thrill of adventure and freedom that I feel while roaming the skies. I now know that somehow flight will always be a part of
