In today’s world, there needs to be rules for everyone to get along harmoniously, but unfortunately even with rules, people still find ways to hurt others. Martin Luther King Jr once stated “in the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends” (Preller, 2009). With that said, bullying is one of those problems that can be pushed under the rug if not understood by teachers, parents and students. Even though there isn’t a national law or policy in the United States on bullying, there are policies and laws in place in certain states (Stopbully,2015). For example, Florida has a statute in place in chapter 1006, section 147; “Bullying and Harassment Prohibited” that the whole state has to follow. For example, on WFTV channel 9 ABC had in article on Central Middle school in Melbourne Florida about a fight that broke out that was caused by bullying. The mothers of the teenagers were upset because the school wasn’t doing anything about the bullying that was happening at the school. According to the article, the school said that there wasn’t a bullying problem at Central Middle school (Parents of Central Middle, 2016). The policies that are in place are good, but teachers, parents and students need to implement them into action instead of just being bystanders. It is better to have policies in place rather than to have nothing. Especially how there are bully intervention class for the teachers and for the students.
