Many people believe that bullying ends in high school, that as soon as school is over, bullies simply disappear. however, bullying continues into adulthood, it may not be as expressed compared to bullying in schools, however, it does exist. Bullying at work is a relevant issue and can get one fired and/or reported to a supervisor. It is treated as a different issue in the adult world compared to school age bullying. In the workplace, bullying occurs usually between an administrator or a peer and a colleague who is usually well liked and hardworking. The bully in a workplace setting will not openly insult or assault the target, but instead will subtly drop "helpful" advice to incite "mobbing" in the office, aka, to get more and more colleagues …show more content…

The new technology that has arisen just in the last 10 years, has allowed children and adults to take bullying to a new level with a specific form of bullying; cyber bullying. There are 4 types of bullying in all, verbal, cyber, physical, and social, the most prevalent in today 's culture is cyber bullying, and there are varying degrees of charges for cyberbullying specifically, (Stittsville and Weekender) in schools nowadays the ordinary teasing and gossiping of yesterday has escalated to cyber bullying, threats, abuse and harsh verbal taunts. The unfortunate side effects of bullying can include self harm, a decline in performance at school, and even suicide. That is why taking steps to report bullying and preventing it is so important. (Stittsville and Weekender) Internet bullying is less monitored, this is understandable, because there cannot be a teacher, parent or supervisor looking over a web user 's shoulder all the time, teenagers specifically, can get away much more now than they could have 15 years ago prior to high speed internet, it makes it that much easier to bully on online chat rooms, forums, and social media sites. Bullying should be a chargeable offense at school because bullying can have devastating effects on victims, bullying can continue into adulthood, bullying is not just children teasing, and finally, bullying is not necessary in defending oneself.
