Bullying
In schools and other places around the world bullying has affected people’s lives. About 36 percent of middle school students reported being bullied compared to 25.8 percent of high school students. Also, 1 in 6 students is regularly bullied on a day to day basis at school. This shows how real of an issue bullying in America is. Not only does bullying affect the victims but it can also affect the family members of the victim. Actions need to be taken to help reduce and then eventually stop this problem. No problems as big as bullying can be solved over night, so we must take steps to eliminate bullying. There are many different ways we can intervene and put bullying to an end.
In our time today bullying is affecting the U.S. as a whole. We are discriminating all Muslims because we are associating them with terrorists. This is not the right way to go about the situation. Terrorism is not associated to one religion and it is unfair to single out one religion or group of people for the actions of an extreme radical group.
There is no philosophy that states bullying is a right and just thing. Everyone should follow the golden rule and treat others the way they want to be treated. No kid wants to go to school and be scared about what might happen to them. With bullying the victims are

There are different ways a bystander can prevent bullying from occurring. Some bystanders directly intervene, by discouraging the bully, defending the victim, or redirecting the situation away from bullying. Other bystanders get help, by rallying support from peers to stand up against bullying or by reporting the bullying to adults. In this method the bystander would see what is going on between the bully and the victim. After seeing what is going on the bystander would report to the adult so they will be able to take care of it. Both of these methods are a very effective way to put bullying to an end in
With this unfortunate circumstance, schools need to put a stop to bullying. Informing the school and the community on the issue of bullying is the first step in ending it. To continue, the next is to make rules that will prevent kids from wanting to bully other students. Also, creating an anti-bully committee and a bullying report office in schools will help reduce bullying. With cyber bullying being so difficult to detect, we inform parents and students about safe internet use and ask parents to monitor their child internet usage. Bullying is
In school you probably remember the “odd-balls” being picked on by the “cool kids”. Maybe they were being called offensive names or were being laughed at because of something they liked, if they looked or acted a certain way. Or possibly it was because of their religion. The truth of the matter is, people will use just about any reason to bully and use different methods when bullying. Questions that rise is what kind of bullying is there? How does it affect the person being targeted? How can we take a stand to stop bullying and ultimately, how can we help those who are being bullied? This essay will consider and answer these questions.
Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. Schools are suppose to be a safe haven for children, a place to go to be taught and to learn, but when someone is constantly
Bullying is defined as abusive behavior that targets someone’s gender, religion, race, sexual orientation, or nation origin. Laws against this kind of behavior in school should be in place. These laws help prevent suicide, keep society in order and morals intact while providing legal protection, and help prevent longer lasting negative effects.
She would be able to confront the situation by herself or with the help of guidance counselors. In a future classroom, I would contact my administrator and/or school guidance counselors. Together the appropriate individuals can confront the bully as well as get the parents involved to remedy the situation. When faced with a direct confrontation with a bully, I must never react emotionally toward the situation. Most importantly, I/we must deal with the bully appropriately, but the victim needs assistance too. It is my job to advise the victim to do everything in their power to avoid the bully, tell an adult when they are victimized, stay in a group of friends, don’t react emotionally, and etc. As well as addressing the bully and victim, I must ensure that my students understand that being a bystander is just as bad as being a bully. My students will understand they must report intimidating behavior, let the bully know their behavior is not cool, be a friend, and that no matter who you are anyone can become a victim of
Bullying is a serious issue in todays world. Research shows that bullying leads to failure in school, physical anguish, poor social/emotional development, and perhaps even death. Not only can bullying affect young in school, but also adults at the workplace. Without the courage of the witnesses to these acts, nothing can be done about bullying. Bullying cannot be ignored, and if it is, it will only lead to bigger problems and will cause more deaths. Without the proper communication and programs we provide, bullying will continue to threaten kids and adults around the World. Help us stop Bullying today.
When was the last time you’ve seen somebody get bullied, in real life or in the media? Chances are, you’ve probably seen this situation many times. Bullies are running a rampage across america, frightening the youth of the country. Some people bully because of past trauma in their life, some have trouble socializing, and others are just plain rude. Bullies need to be stopped as soon as possible. Jared Hoffman’s idea is to encourage kids to tell an adult if they are being bullied and to confront the one being bullied. We agree with Jared Hoffman’s perspective on bullying because he believes that bullies should be dealt with in way that helps both the bullies and the ones being bullied, and here are some reasons why.
Bullying has been a part of schooling for as long as children have been congregating. To some it seems like a natural, though uncomfortable, part of life and school experience, while to others it can mean terrifying experiences which spoiled and characterized otherwise happy years in school. Dan Olweus, a pioneer in bully behavior research documented that 2.7 million children are affected as victims, and that 2.1 children act as bullies (Fried, 1997, as cited in Aluedse, 2006). With bullying cited as the reason for violent, gun-related crime in the past few years, school districts as well as national governments have put anti-bullying policies in place. Bullying is a complicated phenomenon, involving more than one child demanding lunch money from a smaller child. It is a worldwide epidemic hitting schools everywhere. Virtually everyone has seen or experienced bullying. With technological advances, bullying is even hitting the internet. Parents, teachers, students and governments agencies alike are attempting to put a stop to bullying practices.
There are many obstacles that a person my face in his life but a hard one to overcome would be bullying. Bullying is when a person feels the need to belittle, emotionally, or physically harm another person due to differences in appearance, culture, or language.(Merriam-Webster, 1882) These reason are by far the only reasons on why a person may bully but they are a few of the most common ones seen. It may seem like causal fun to joke about another person but it can be very damaging to the person on an emotion level causing lifelong problems. A person that is bullied can develop low self-esteem/ self-image, turn to self-harming techniques, or commit suicide to stop the pain.
Bullying is something that is not something new and is actually something that society continues to face. Over the years, bullying has been looked at as being so ordinary in schools that it is continuously overlooked as an emanate threat to students and has been lowered to a belief that bullying is a part of the developmental stage that most young children will experience then overcome (Allebeck, 2005, p. 129). Not everyone gets over the extreme hurt that can come as an effect from bullying, for both the bully and the victim. Because of this, we now see bullying affecting places such as the workplace, social events and even the home. The issue of bullying is not only experienced in schools, but the school environment is one of the best places
On the afternoon of April 9, 2010 I found myself in a meeting with Kerri Evans, the assistant principal of Pleasant Ridge Middle School, and my son Nicholas. I was there because my son had become a victim of verbal abuse. It was shocking to learn that bullying has become such an epidemic in our school system. “Nearly 1 in 3 students is involved in bullying” (Hertzog, 2010). In a perfect world there would be no bullying. Kids wouldn’t get shoved into lockers, and they wouldn’t be beat up in the hallway. Students wouldn’t talk about another student behind their back because of their shape, size, race, or religion. In a perfect world this wouldn’t happen, but at that moment in our imperfect world it was happening to my son. The question is, why does it happen and what can we do to stop it? “According to a 2009 federal survey of school crime and safety, 32 percent of middle and high school students said they'd been victimized during the academic year, compared with 14 percent in 2001” (Tyre, 2010). Bullying was making its way into my home and affecting my life. It was then that I realized that bullying was a problem that needed to stop. Bullying in schools is escalating and becoming a bigger and bigger issue, and we must take action to eliminate it.
“Researchers have conducted that at least 25% of all children will be affected by bullying at some point during their school years, and many of these children miss significant numbers of school days each year owing to fear of being bullied” (Bray, M., Kehle, T., Sassu, K. (2003). Bullying has become a major problem for our students and our schools. Children are missing educational time and are losing self-confidence because they are afraid or intimidated by other students. We, as teachers, need to reduce bullying in our schools and prevent bullying from being a reoccurring issue in the lives of our students in order for them to learn, grow and develop. Our goal as teachers should be “to reduce as much as possible-ideally to eliminate completely- existing bully/victim problems in and out of the school setting and to prevent the development of new problems” (Olweus, D. (1993).
Bullying has always been present within the United States. Although the issue has been around for a long time, it continues to grow and become more of problem. It is said that about 160,000 children within the United States are refusing to go to school because of bullying. Another statistic is that within American schools alone, there are an estimated 2.1 billion bullies and 2.7 billion victims (Dan Olewus, MBNBD). The numbers presented here are outrageous and although there are organizations to stop bullying, obviously there needs to be a new set of solutions. Any type of bullying presents problems to children, “Suicide, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trouble with the law, poor performance in school and work, and lack of involvement in socially accepted activities are some of the difficulties resulting from bullying (Austin, Reynolds, Barnes, Shirley). Of course, there is more than just a single type of bullying. Feeding ground for bullies can range anywhere from text-message or cyberbullying to physical bullying in schools. Also, bullies can begin to strike at a young age and could also be; teenage, middle-age, or even the elderly. Even though there are these many versions of problematic bullies, the largest bullying problems take place within the school setting: a place that is supposed to be safe for children rather than harmful. Although it seems impossible to completely get rid of bullying, these are a few suggested solutions; making the school informed on bullying issues, schools implementing rules on bullying, and having students positively use electronics to stop bullying.
Bullying of students in school is an abuse that affects and produces a number of negative experiences on the victim. It is proven that those students who bully do so merely because they see themselves superior than those being bullied. They use this as a tactic to make juniors fear them and show them that they are not equal in any way. Some will even bully as a revenge of the bullying they suffered in the past. I have been bullied before and I know some of the effects it could have on a person. Bullying is a serious cause of many issues and has effects that may be long lasting.
Bullying has become a serious problem in public schools systems. Being a victim of bullying is a daily struggle for some students. The issue continues to grow, but the question is how to stop bullying from occurring. Many ways have been attempted to stop bullying, but some are more effective than others. Having the students get involved seems to have the most positive effect on the bullying issue in public school systems.
