Have you ever bullied or been bullied? If you have bullied or been bullied then you should know how bullying feels like. Bullying is very negative and creates major problems for our society. Nothing good comes out of bullying. It could very well change or ruin a person’s life. In fact, it does ruin many people’s lives. Kids can be mentally scarred if they are teased often. Even worse, they could be killed or fatally injured if the bullying gets extreme. There are many causes for bullying which must be taken care of before bullying can be stopped. T.V. violence, families in poverty, and mis-teachings are just several of the many serious causes for bullying. Bullying must be stopped or prevented no matter how long it will take, it is a deeply concerning matter.
Bullying does not always have to be childish play, it can be extremely violent. People may be bruised, injured, or even killed. Kids under bad influence may turn very violent. Bullying can be define as “ intentional, usually recurrent, action designed to inflict physical and psychological harm on another person or persons by one or more persons and is part of a complex interplay of dominance and social status”( Marsh,). Bullying can take place when a target child exposed to social egression by some of his or her peers, who perceive hem or her in lower state. Aggression behaviors and bullying can be confused together as perceiving them as they are the same thing but they are not. Aggression behaviors and bullying can be confused together as perceived as they are the same thing. They are not the same think because psychologists explained that aggression behaviors are the aggressive actions that people express against each other for specific period of time. While bullying on the other hand, is continuous aggression against specific person in which, this person exposure to aggressiveness is not limited to a one time incident. ”( Marsh, H). Being a bully or a victim sometime is not exclusive to certain individuals or groups because sometimes individual play both roles. An individual can be a bully due to his or his past experience of being bullied. Contrary, a former bully can be a victim as a consequence of his or her past behavior.( Marsh,)
It all began in the fourth grade. Life was going good for the young girl. She had tons of friends and a great family. She thought that she was loved by everyone, but apparently not. Her nightmare would begin on the playground at the age of 10. Older boys at her school thought that she was hideous. They would torment her and call her all sorts of names. They called her names that she did not understand. She was being called fat when she was only 60 pounds. The name calling was not the worst of it. She began getting physically bullied. The girls that were supposed to be her friends bullied her. She was pushed into walls and the boys would run their knuckles down her spine until she bruised. She told the principal but he only said her parents were doing it. This young extravagant girl did not know what to do. Her parents had no choice but to move schools. This girl is a bright sophomore that no longer gets bullied. Bullies can torment and harass you until you feel like nothing. They can be cruel for no reason. I am that girl and have that personal experience of being bullied. I know what it is like to feel like you are worth nothing. No one should have to go through this and it should be stopped.
Bullying has been a growing problem in the world but more prominently has this become an issue in America. In Ann Hulberts article “Elephant in the Room” of Slate Magazine, she takes a position regarding anti-bullying programs that are being made to reduce this crisis. The way parents, teachers and victims have dealt with bullies has generally been a step in the wrong direction. We have always been told to ignore people that do not respect you, when really the problem is that these cruel people are acting this way because of a lack of attention. Therefore ignoring them is only going to enhance the cruelty. It is not a phase that kids are going to grow out of and its hurting a lot of people. The percentage of kids that have been involved in bullying is about ten to fifteen percent higher in the United States compared to Norwegian kids. This was found out in a study conducted by Dan Olweus, a psychologist at Bergen University. What I understand from the article is that Ann Hulbert does not believe in the “bully-proofing campaign” because it ultimately it is going t...
Bullying needs to stop and more needs to be done, laws need to be set against bullying to save lives and prevent self-harm. Many see bullying happening at school and not everyone reports it or steps in to help prevent it. Research has shown that those who get bullied and the bully get effects, more the victim of being bullied get different effects. Statistics and information showed how often bullying occurred and where it occurred. Research on bullying has shown that the results those bullied get. Laws need to be set with the help of Project Footsteps it should be partnered up with every school to make a difference in those children’s lives. Bullied as a child results into a more negative adulthood when those bullied grow up. They have a higher
This essay discusses my opinion of bulling.I want to tell you what I think about bulling. I'll just give you the simple things for right now, I never like bullying and never will I never got the point of bulling in the first place like I mean whats the whole point of it, you might think "what are you talking about bullying will get me attention it will it will let me go with the cool kids ;-)" well you're only thinking about yourself you're being selfish you may get what you wanted but while you're over there enjoying yourself the other kid that got picked on wishes this could stop. However the bully doesn't care what happens to the kid.
Bullying can and must be stopped. It happens more often than you’d think, because if it doesn’t happen directly to you or in front of you, you won’t know it’s there. Bullies shouldn’t be allowed to torment people, and people who stand up to their bullies and report the bullying can get away from being bullied. Report bullying. Call for help, run to get an adult, report the problem, but don’t let bullying happen unobstructed. “End bullying before it ends a life”
Bullying is an on going problem that I feel isn't going to be fixed by some bill passed by the state. I don't know a lot about this bill that was passed but from what I've heard I don't think it's a fix this "problem." I feel that the word "bullying" is a term that is over used, not use correctly and miss perceived by many people. Now I have been bullied, bullying to me is making comments to bring someone down such as, "your going to eat all of that?" to mean remarks calling someone a slut, whore, bitch, etc. everyone's view of bullying changes in every grade and from person to person. Some people are more sensitive to comments as I explained, but some really don't care what people say to them or about them. I have been a victim to bullying, normally attacks on my self-esteem, looks, the way I talk, what I wore, what I drove, my grades, what I did in my personal life, pretty much whatever they could get their hands on to make me feel like crap is what I experienced. For cyber bullying I've experienced it mainly when I made a post and a group of people gang up on you and verbally att...
Bullying is one of numerous factors which can lead to delinquency. The most common place bullying takes place is in school and is done by both young and older teenagers. Teenage bullying in school is a serious problem. "According to statistics from Family First Aid, about 30 percent of teenagers in the U.S. have been involved in bullying, either as a bully or as a victim of teenage bullying”. This includes all types of bullying: physical, verbal, cyber and social/emotional. Each has their own distinct effect on teenager’s development and their understanding of proper etiquette.
Bullying has been a part of schooling for as long as children have been congregating. To some it seems like a natural, though uncomfortable, part of life and school experience, while to others it can mean terrifying experiences which spoiled and characterized otherwise happy years in school. Dan Olweus, a pioneer in bully behavior research documented that 2.7 million children are affected as victims, and that 2.1 children act as bullies (Fried, 1997, as cited in Aluedse, 2006). With bullying cited as the reason for violent, gun-related crime in the past few years, school districts as well as national governments have put anti-bullying policies in place. Bullying is a complicated phenomenon, involving more than one child demanding lunch money from a smaller child. It is a worldwide epidemic hitting schools everywhere. Virtually everyone has seen or experienced bullying. With technological advances, bullying is even hitting the internet. Parents, teachers, students and governments agencies alike are attempting to put a stop to bullying practices.
Bullying.. it has been around for who knows how long and it is becoming a big problem in the past couple of years. Professor Louise Arseneault, senior author, also from the Institute of Psychiatry at King's adds: "We need to move away from any perception that bullying is just an inevitable part of growing-up. Teachers, parents and policy-makers should be aware that what happens in the school playground can have long-term repercussions for children. Programmes to stop bullying are extremely important, but we also need to focus our efforts on early intervention to prevent potential problems persisting into adolescence and adulthood." I agree with this this statement 100% we need to stop looking at how this is all can be a learning process and they have to get through this. Bullying is becoming a world problem and needs to be put to a stop.
Bullying is a growing concern in a society where status and exercising power over another human being are increasingly important in developing one’s social circles. Dan Olweus (Norwegian researcher and founder of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program) defines it as an “aggressive behaviour that is intentional and that involves an imbalance of power. Most often, it is repeated over time” (Violencepreventionworks.org). School victimization is an especially delicate matter that has only really been in the public eye for the past half century, as more and more researchers and psychologists pointed out its short- and long-term negative effects on targeted individuals. It has since been widely investigated and numerous programs have been developed in an effort to address and prevent the many forms of bullying that exist today. The negative effects of such an abusive behaviour are various and can greatly differ from individual to individual. However, there are three main consequences that can be associated with school bullying, which are: school avoidance, depression/anxiety and even suicidal attempts.
Bullying is a serious issue and has an adverse effect that could lead to depression, anxiety, and worse suicide. To become a bully takes a long process, with the help from parents, schools, communities, and social media, bullies and bullying can be prevented.
Bullying is a repeated harmful act that continues to affect millions of students every year. There is no stereotypical person that is a target for bullying; anyone can be its victim. There may not always be any signs of physical harm during these attacks, but our children always suffer emotional harm. Educating students, teachers and parents seems to be the only valid solution to this problem. There are many organizations that can educate the schools on this subject but for it to work people must care. Maybe one day, when enough people realize that this problem will not go away with out their help, we can eliminate bullying from our schools. In a perfect world there would be no bullying, but if you could ask Rachel Scott she would tell you we do not live in a perfect world, only a hopeful one.
Bullying has always been present within the United States. Although the issue has been around for a long time, it continues to grow and become more of problem. It is said that about 160,000 children within the United States are refusing to go to school because of bullying. Another statistic is that within American schools alone, there are an estimated 2.1 billion bullies and 2.7 billion victims (Dan Olewus, MBNBD). The numbers presented here are outrageous and although there are organizations to stop bullying, obviously there needs to be a new set of solutions. Any type of bullying presents problems to children, “Suicide, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trouble with the law, poor performance in school and work, and lack of involvement in socially accepted activities are some of the difficulties resulting from bullying (Austin, Reynolds, Barnes, Shirley). Of course, there is more than just a single type of bullying. Feeding ground for bullies can range anywhere from text-message or cyberbullying to physical bullying in schools. Also, bullies can begin to strike at a young age and could also be; teenage, middle-age, or even the elderly. Even though there are these many versions of problematic bullies, the largest bullying problems take place within the school setting: a place that is supposed to be safe for children rather than harmful. Although it seems impossible to completely get rid of bullying, these are a few suggested solutions; making the school informed on bullying issues, schools implementing rules on bullying, and having students positively use electronics to stop bullying.
In recent times bullying has become a national issue, notwithstanding the fact that it has been in existence for many years. Traditionally, bullying has been seen as horseplay, but with the increase of harassment in schools and suicides; parents and schools are now forced to take action to prevent bullying in schools. Bullying is an unwanted, aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance which has the potential to be repeated over time. Strategies to prevent bullying in schools are grouped into identifying the causes of bullying, creating policies and rules, building a safe environment and educating students and staff.
