Bulimia and Anorexia

Everybody has had those days where they've felt lonely, bored, or stressed and felt the need to turn to food, nonetheless when suffering from bulimia overeating becomes a severe compulsion. Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by numerous occurrences of binge eating followed by an impulsive effort to avoid gaining weight via purging. Purging is self-induced ways to get rid of the food in your body which includes vomiting, and overuse of laxatives. There are many other ways to purge. On the other hand, Anorexia is also an eating disorder where the person has a poor image of their self, a refusal to sustain a healthy body weight as well as, a strong fear of gaining weight. For the reason that these individuals are fearful to gain weight their eating becomes stressful. In this case, your mind is completely consumed with bad thoughts of yourself along with, what you can and can’t eat. Bulimia and anorexia are indeed very similar, but many individuals fail to realize the importance in distinguishing the two different eating disorders. When viewing the actions behind the disorders, you begin to see where they differ. Those suffering with Bulimia Nervosa struggle to control one’s self from eating too much. They tend to consume foods in very large amounts (binge eating) and then experience a feeling of guilt and regret immediately after eating. The immense feeling of guilt for letting themselves lose control leads to the act of purging to ultimately take back what they’ve done. In comparison to the lack of control of how much they eat in Bulimia, those suffering from Anorexia Nervosa have too much control over how much they eat to the extent that they do not eat anything at all.
