Board of Education. What were the positions of the two sides in the case, and how did it led to a debate over Desegregation versus Integration in the United States? Brown vs Board of education was the case which ended segregation in the school system. The doctrine separate but equal was rendered useless, because separate educational facilities actually suggest inequality. The plaintiff argued that segregation has resulted in unequal education among African American students so the court should pass a law to desegregate the educational system. The board of education argued that the course of education and the quality of teacher in both the schools were very similar, therefore there was no need for desegregation. The main argument over desegregation verses integration was that should there be a system where Blacks and Whites can attend a school if they choose to or should they be able to attend the school regardless of the choice. The southern states had laws preventing Blacks from attending whites school. Unlike the North which did not have any law regarding the segregation, instead all white and all black school were a result of where people lived. The supreme court tried to fix the situation when they created the Freedom of choice plan, under which all students were allowed to go to whichever school they like, the court rejected the plan because it did not create a nonracial
