I continue to be taken aback by the behavior of some of the Brophy students when they leave the campus. Unfortunately, I still have reason to be near the campus around dismissal time. Yes, when possible I arrange my schedule to avoid Brophy. My father who lives near the campus also avoids the school. Boys in cars with Brophy decals and license plate covers drive with little concern for traffic or safety. They pull alongside each other, honking, students yelling out windows and yesterday just dropping trash out the window. Please consider over the next few weeks, spending some time in your car driving up Central and/or east on Camelback. I am confident it will not take long for you to witness behavior that is not in line with what I understand
Most of the drivers probably had important places they had to be which can lead to frustration, road rage, verbal abuse and or erratic behavior. It can also be noted that, one driver drove his vehicle on to the emergency lane to bypass a moving vehicle and clipped a car. Not all of the cars did that, so whether a person decides to act in a deviant manner or escalate the situation also depends on their personal characteristics and there level of emotional maturity. Whether conformity is a form of deviance depends on what the group is conforming to and if they have all have the same goal or mission. ‘Road Respect’ is an attempt to educate Massachusetts drivers on the dangers of aggressive driving and enforce its decline. The Governor’s Highway Safety Bureau (GHSB), the State Police and over 255 local police departments are participating in the ‘Road Respect’ campaign to make it a success.
In the late 1920’s, school buses and larger industrial vehicles became a popular source of transportation that started from Ford dealership owner, A.L. Luce. Luce had plans to extend the school bus frame (from a Model T) to accompany more students per one bus. As school buses and city buses became more common throughout America’s cities for daily transportation, safety regulations and precautions were put in place. Safety features, including flashing caution lights, visors outside of the vehicle, and motorized stop signs and stop arms were all installed within the next 80 years to make the journey to and from school safer. Although many of these precautions were taken, many citizens believe that not enough action was taken to promote safety on school buses. Because a variety of school bus companies do not have a stance on whether seatbelts should be installed or not, the safety concerns mainly impact parents and school leaders. A good solution for many of those concerned would be the installation of seatbelts on every school bus within the United States, but the reality of seatbelts being on buses is quite the opposite of what people believe. Seatbelts are not the justification to these safety issues concerning school corporations and parents nationwide, as the seatbelts are a costly and dangerous factor.
In his article,“Driving While Stupid”, David Barry expresses his opinions toward the drivers in Miami, and in different countries as well. Even though he has met bad drivers throughout his life, he strongly believed that Miami drivers are the worst drivers because of the way the drive. David Barry describes all the bad drivers he has seen to prove his point that drivers in Miami are still the worst drivers.
Writer, David Foster Wallace, in his speech “This is Water” implies that the way schools teach kids to think these days is wrong. this is in result of his opinion on how most people think during their normal day. Explaining that most people only look at their lives, they never think about how other people’s days could be going or how they live their lives. He refers to the point that you should not get mad during traffic with a bunch of big SUVs because “It's not impossible that some of these people in SUVs were in horrible driving accidents in the past, and now find driving so terrifying that their therapist has all but ordered them to get a huge, heavy, SUV so they can feel safe enough to drive.” He later reviews his points to try and persuade you to change your way of thinking, maybe to keep you from being selfish and thinking of others.
I believe that the essay, “Did My Car Join Al Qaudea” by Wood Hochswender, is persuasive. The reason why I think Hochswender’s essay is persuasive because he makes several statements about why SUV’s are more efficient. Hochswender shows the use of ethos by stating “I choose not to whip around corners or to follow others so closely and at such high speeds that I have to make harrowing, emergency stops. I drive so as not to roll over (Hochswender 155).” I believe Hochswender is trying to get individuals to understand that it is not the SUV that makes the passengers unsafe, but more so the driver. A Mark IV Toyota Supra and Chevy Camaro SS pull up at a red light on a lonesome stretch of flat road amongst a dimming blue sky; the drivers nod at one another, rev the engines, and jam the accelerator pedals. When two drivers try to outrace each other on public streets, automobile driving makes a turn into the illegal form of motor racing known as street racing. Several possible causes to this aggressive street driving include a recent release of movies that inspire racing by the desire to fulfill the adrenaline rush raging in young people, the overall convenience of street racing, and most importantly, a way for teenagers to achieve nobility status in a short a time.
Each year numerous lives are lost due to careless and irrational driving. The disregard for safe driving has been a predicament to Queensland for years. For many years? police have relied heavily on speed cameras, breathe testing and heavy fines as a deterrent against unlawful drivers. Over the years fatality rates have increased, so Queensland Transport has composed a series of safe driving campaigns. On many occasions the transport department informs and advises the public about the importance of responsible driving. They propagate safe driving through the various channels of the media. Their safe driving campaign is now using effective propaganda aimed directly at speeding; drink driving and tired and reckless driving
Most if not all teens look forward to several events in their life. One of those events are getting a driver's license. This small piece of plastic is their ticket to freedom. This ticket is more than just freedom to be able to drive their friends around but also freedom from the ritual of their parents having to drive them everywhere and embarrass them in public. Also this is a freedom to the parents as well they may save more on gas from not having to drive their children around. However, some teens are not as safe as they possibly could be if they were to take a few steps to promote good driving habits. This is evident in the article “Teen Driving”, as the author gives the reader teen driving statistics, as well as explanations of programs and steps that can improve teen driving.
With the introduction of the automobile in the early 1900s, laws have been instituted to protect drivers on the road. With these laws come lawbreakers who put their agenda in front of the well being of others. Tens of thousands of lives have been lost. billions of dollars have been spent, and pollution has grown exponentially because of this. drivers travelling at high speeds on roads (Hartman).
