Each year, thousands of women die due to breast cancer. Beside skin cancer and lung cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. According to the Breastcancer.org, about 1 in 8 of U.S women (about 12 %) will develop invasive breast cancer over her lifetime (Breastcancer.org, 2016). In 2015, about 30 percent of American women were diagnosed with breast cancer and in 2016, it is expected an estimated 246,660 new cases of invasive breast cancer to be diagnosed in women in the U.S along with 61,000 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer (Breastcancer.org, 2016). A woman, who has first degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, is more at risk of diagnosing of breast cancer. Due to the exponential growth of this disease in women, potentially, and I know many who had diagnosed with breast cancer. I have decided to write this research paper about breast cancer and further expand my knowledge about causes and preventive ways of breast cancer. Breast cancer is a cancer (disease) that forms in the breast cell due to uncontrolled growth cells in the lobules of milk producing glands. The uncontrolled growth cell occurs due to abnormal changes and replication of breast cell. In healthy person, the new cells replace with the older or die out cells orderly process (Breastcancer.org, 2016). However, person with a breast cancer, the cell proliferate without control or un-orderly and forming a tumor. Tumor is classified as benign or malignant. Benign tumor is not considered as cancerous because they grow slowly and do not spread to another part of the body. However, malignant tumor is dangerous and considered cancerous because they spread to other parts of the body (Breastcance... ... middle of paper ... ...he sentinel node. After the surgery, the blue-stained sentinel node was collected from the mastectomy specimen and send for conventional histopathological and IHC examination. The standard IHC methods were carried out on sections cut from the paraffin block of the sentinel node for EMA test (Khanna et. al, 2011). The results were obtained after 9-10 days for histopathology and IHC of EMA of the blue stained nodes. Researches found that conventional hematoxylin and eosin was able to diagnose metastasis in 34/84 whereas, the IHC for EMA was diagnosed 36 out of 84 patients. Based on results, Khanna el. al concluded that IHC techniques are generally more sensitive compared to conventional histopathology. Yet, they suggested that both histopathology and IHC for EMA are for the comprehensive evaluation of sentinel node in node-negative breast cancer (Khanna et. al, 2011).
