The Boy In The Striped Pajamas by John Boyne was published in 2006. This novel is about a boy that meets someone when he moves next to a concentration camp for the Jews and he befriends him. Also its an adventure for a boy named Bruno. This novel is well put together and is a really great book. The story begins with Bruno one day coming home from school and seeing his maid packing his stuff up. He was a little curious about what was going on and sees that his sister is doing the same with her stuff, getting it all ready to leave Berlin. He goes through the house to find his mother gathering her stuff as well and he starts to ask questions about what was happening and what was going on. She said to him that they are leaving Berlin because of something about the father's work. He got a promotion to be Commandant. Then they left to their new …show more content…
He was allowed to go in because the father knew how he felt about the moving they had to do. The father talked in the conversation about why the move happened because of his job. Also he talked about Maria and said to him that he should go and help with unpacking because he wanted the conversation to stop. Then he talked about how she is an overpaid maid. When Bruno was going to help the maid unpack he calls his father stupid and Maria did not like that because the father had taken her in when she was younger because the grandfather owned her mother. Back when they had lived in Berlin, Bruno had three best friends to play with. But since he moved he had no friends, so he builds a tire swing for playing on and ends up getting hurt on it. He falls off of it and this guy named Pavel comes running out to help him and bandage him up. Pavel cleans and fixes the problem and they talk and Bruno finds out that he was a doctor before coming to be a prisoner at the concentration camp. Then the mother gets back home and takes the credit for fixing Bruno
The holocaust was a terrible point in history where Jewish people were killed and treated with prejudice. I feel Night showed how prejudice the Germans were to the Jew better than “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” because it tells Elie’s story from his point of view with his feelings while the movie was about a German kid meeting a Jewish kid and becoming friends. Even though both sources are good, I feel Night gives us more information on how they were treated.
My teacher has given me and my class many novels to read. But only two got my attention. The Boy in Striped Pajamas and The Hobbit. Not only did the story get my attention but most importantly the characters of these two books. These two characters are Bruno and Bilbo. They are both great to look up to because of their bravery and knowledge. I will be writing about two great characters that can be very alike but at the same time very different it’s a bit complicated.
Set in 1942, The story is about a young boy named Bruno, the protagonist, and his family who are moved from his home in Berlin to the Auschwitz concentration camp, the antagonist by Adolf Hitler for his father’s (also an antagonist) job as a Nazi commandment, . Bruno discovers many
Bruno comes upon a fence that he follows until he sees a young boy sitting on the other side of the fence. The shoeless boy is wearing striped pajamas and a cloth cap. Bruno also notices that the boy is wearing an armband with a star on it. Bruno makes fast friends with the boy, Shmuel, and they quickly discover that they share the same birthday. The boys discuss their families and where they are from. At the end of their first meeting, Bruno asks Shmuel why there are so many people on his side of the fence and what they are doing there. A few days later, Bruno's father has dinner guests; the man's name is "the Fury" and his date is called Eva. Bruno instantly dislikes the couple. Bruno's sister Gretel, whom he refers to as "the Hopeless Case," is smitten by the man and tries hard to impress him and his lady friend. Bruno, however, is disgusted by his sister's behavior and her budding romance with a young soldier.
The next morning they woke up early and was given a piece of bread and a cup of black coffee. He was sent into a work group and his assignment was to go chop trees. After a whole day he had blisters on his hands. Then after that they went to sleep and woke up and did the same thing. He escaped the camp and returned to his family. Then later he and his brother went to a sign up for the Polish Army while they were in line they escaped and was caught by Nazi’s. They were brought in a room room with a Nazi leader, a guys named Dr.Mengele, and 2 other guys. Dr.Mengele and one of the 2 guys took Romek in a different room and torcherd him to death and wanted him to tell them what he knew about them. He wouldn’t say anything so they killed him. While that was going on the other guy asked David what he knew he said nothing and he started beating him up then the other guy came outta the other room and said leave him alone he’s too young to know
Throughout war, there have always been an effort to stop the involvement of the innocent. A big effort of this is towards children who were unfortunately stuck in conflict and sometimes join the conflict. John Boyne's book “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” helps shines light on social issues that are plaguing countries and communities today. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is a touching story about the innocence of children in times of conflict shown by Bruno's lack of hate for Jews, Shmuel's kindness towards Bruno, and their commitment to each other in times of war.
It shows the different views of people throughout the Holocaust and the difficult situations that some of them went through. Bruno’s friend Shmuel and the other Jews were treated less than human during the Holocaust. Once Bruno moved to the Out-With house, the first thing he noticed was that there were no kids or neighbors, unlike his old house in Berlin. Bruno soon began to investigate further in finding out where all the people were at. Bruno then noticed a barbed wire fence which was very high and had huge wooden posts like telephone poles holding it up for support.

Other people in Bruno’s class were scared of him and though being scared they respected him. Because he had this kind of scared respect for him he was voted class president and was left alone. People stopped seeing him at school for a while and soon found out that his dad died. He was killed in the mafia, which affected him strongly. When he came back no one said anything and at this time he really need some one to talk too. But no one did because they were scare of him. The only person that came was the narrator was the only person who even came up to him and he did not even let her say it. But she could tell that he really enjoy her even coming up to him to attempt to talk to him.
The audience’s focus was meant to be on the experience and life of a fun-loving German boy named Bruno. Surrounding this eight-year-old boy were conspicuous Nazi influences. Bruno is just an example of a young child among many others oblivious of buildings draped in flags, and Jewish civilians who are seen briefly being forced out of homes and into loading trucks.... ... middle of paper ...
Once Simon is at the hospital he gets called inside by a nurse, she takes him to a patients rooms. In the room lay a dying Nazi
Bruno, an eight year old boy at the time of the war, is completely oblivious to the atrocities of the war around him - even with a father who is a Nazi commandant. The title of the book is evidence to this - Bruno perceives the concentration camp uniforms as "striped pajamas." Further evidence is the misnomers "the Fury," (the Furher) and "Out-With" (Auschwitz). Bruno and Shmuel, the boy he meets from Auschwitz, share a great deal in common but perhaps what is most striking is the childhood innocence which characterizes both boys. Bruno is unaware that his father is a Nazi commandant and that his home is on ther periphery of Auschwitz. Shmuel, imprisoned in the camp, seems not to understand the severity of his situation. When his father goes missing, Shmuel does not understand that he has gone to the gas chamber.
While he is there in the camp he sees and experiences many traumatic events, as well as him being the only one out of his family to survive. In the film “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” Bruno is a nine year old German boy who experiences World War ll outside of a concentration camp his father runs. When Bruno gets curious he befriends a Jewish boy inside the camp and decides to come into the camp to help the boy find his father. Bruno and his Jewish friend end up being sent to the gas chambers and die. Both accounts of the Holocaust share many similarities and differences.
Bruno is irritated and shocked when he’s told they’re moving from Berlin but being a very naive boy doesn’t understand why their family has to leave. The story follows on as Bruno sets out from his house in Auschwitz to explore and finds a boy the same age as him sitting on the ground, on the other side of a fence. His name is Shmuel, a Jewish boy held captive in a concentration camp, but Bruno believes the camp is just a farm. Their friendship cements but is separated by a barbed wire.
