March fifth, 1770 was a horrific event that was caused by high tensions between the colonists inhabiting Boston and the British forces. The Boston massacre is one of the most appalling displays of a massacre in history, but who is to blame for inflaming this gruesome event? I think that it was the British who instigated the Boston Massacre. Although the soldiers were provoked by the crowd, the soldiers had a responsibility, and that was to keep peace, not kill civilians. The British also had an immature, irresponsible influence behind their revenge, shooting and fighting . If the British didn't have a desire to seek revenge on the Bostonians, the event and the ones that followed could have never occurred. After the ropewalk fights, the British felt the need to finish the conflict by shooting people and scaring the colonist. It was even accounted that after Montgomery fired, Matthew Killroy raised his weapon and fired into the crowd, intentionally killing the colonists. The soldiers were seeking their revenge, and were too immature to control their actions. The blame for the Boston massacre directly lies upon the soldiers actions. The soldiers had no justified explanation to fire at the colonists, no matter how big the crowd grew. Also, the soldiers fired at the crowd out of a heated desire for revenge, not out of self defense. None of the civilians intended to attempted and kill the soldiers, therefor the soldiers were obligated to simply stand their ground and wait until the crowd were killed. The taunting, soldiers acted upon there intentions. The colonials were not expecting to kill or to be killed that night. The cruel British actions in the past help us prove this. The British have been blamed for this event for centuries.
