Everyone has a different opinion on what is the greatest comeback ever is; however, none can compare to the 2004 Red Sox American League Championship Series comeback. It is the greatest comeback of all-time. They are the only team to ever win a best of seven series after being in a deficit of three games to none. The only team ever to do this. They made history, and it most likely still haunts Yankees fans.. The ‘04 Sox comeback is the best of all time because it stunned the baseball world, led to a World Series victory, and has happened only once in history. To pull off this epic of a comeback, they had to find themselves in a major deficit to begin with. The Yankees three game advantage over Boston in the regular season was the best record in the American League for the 2004 season. Both teams entered the ALCS playing very good baseball, yet the Yankees seemed dominant to start the series. The Yanks took the first two games swiftly followed by a game three explosion for 19 runs on 22 hits. The Sox appeared to have no chance for a trip to the World Series at this point. The Boston Globe reported their team as “left-for-dead” and claimed their game three loss as a “death sentence”. Boston had lost all hope. Nobody would have expected David Ortiz to hit a walk off home run in extra innings to win game four, but the dinger ignited a spark in the Red Sox. Everyone knows that sparks can make fire, and a fire was started that night. It led to a 14 inning victory in game five. All of the sudden, Boston had life.
