Describe the challenges faced by US Customs and Border Protection agents attempting to secure the border. Be sure to include: What is the functional equivalent of the border? What is the Fourth amendment exception as it pertains to border searches? How are seizure statistics used to justify the mission of border security? The US Customs and Border Protection agents faces many challenges in performing their duties and responsibilities to secure the border. There are three elements that US Customs and Border Protection agents must consider in order to conduct lawful customs border search. Maintaining a secured border is already difficult and doing other factors associated with it such as facilitating legal border crossing makes it more difficult and will create challenges. Some of the challenges that comes to mind are lack of trained personnel, lack of infrastructure, and lack of surveillance capabilities. In order to maintain a secured border, there should be enough trained personnel/agents that can carry out the duties and responsibilities of a customs or a border officer. Having the right infrastructure is also critical for a secured border. Entry ports in the borders must have the infrastructure to accommodate storing large amounts of goods in the event of seizures as well as accommodating a large amount of personnel crossing or entering the border. Lastly, surveillance equipment is needed to prevent unauthorized entry of goods or people to the United States. The partnership between the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense may resolve or ease the identified challenges as a part of a unified …show more content…

and Global Markets since 9/11? The U.S. and Global Markets took a massive toll affecting the economy since the 9/11 events. One of the economic impact is tourism. The 9/11 terrorist events made the U.S. tightened its security especially in its borders to ensure terrorist activities does not happen again. Due to tighter security measures of the U.S. points of entries, the U.S. took a blow in its tourism. The tight security measures were considered unpleasant for foreign tourists. These tourists then elected to go elsewhere other than the U.S. and its territories. Terrorism also impacted Global Markets because trades of goods from other countries are delayed at ports waiting to be properly searched and cleared by Customs Services. Since the Customs and Border Protection shifted its focus to anti-terrorism, it is expected that proper inspections of goods are free of unauthorized items.
