Maintaining a secured border is already difficult and doing other factors associated with it such as facilitating legal border crossing makes it more difficult and will create challenges. Some of the challenges that comes to mind are lack of trained personnel, lack of infrastructure, and lack of surveillance capabilities. In order to maintain a secured border, there should be enough trained personnel/agents that can carry out the duties and responsibilities of a customs or a border officer. Having the right infrastructure is also critical for a secured border. Entry ports in the borders must have the infrastructure to accommodate storing large amounts of goods in the event of seizures as well as accommodating a large amount of personnel crossing or entering the border. Lastly, surveillance equipment is needed to prevent unauthorized entry of goods or people to the United States. The partnership between the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense may resolve or ease the identified challenges as a part of a unified …show more content…
and Global Markets since 9/11? The U.S. and Global Markets took a massive toll affecting the economy since the 9/11 events. One of the economic impact is tourism. The 9/11 terrorist events made the U.S. tightened its security especially in its borders to ensure terrorist activities does not happen again. Due to tighter security measures of the U.S. points of entries, the U.S. took a blow in its tourism. The tight security measures were considered unpleasant for foreign tourists. These tourists then elected to go elsewhere other than the U.S. and its territories. Terrorism also impacted Global Markets because trades of goods from other countries are delayed at ports waiting to be properly searched and cleared by Customs Services. Since the Customs and Border Protection shifted its focus to anti-terrorism, it is expected that proper inspections of goods are free of unauthorized items. Additionally, the U.S. government also spent a great deal of money to establish many anti-terrorism efforts and additional federal agencies that put the country into a great deal of
A nation without borders is not a nation. Today, every country is making effort to secure its borders not only from terrorists, drugs and smuggling but also from illegal immigration. All these recurring activities have sparked the United States to secure its borders against illegal immigrants and terrorism by creating a special department named the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) headed by the Secretary of Homeland Security. After the terrorist attack of 9/11, terrorism and illegal immigration were two striking issues for the DHS. To solve these issues, the Department of Homeland Security further created two immigration enforcement agencies: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Customs and
After 9/11 there was a great increase in security nationwide. One major example of this is the number of agencies created as a result of 9/11. Among these agencies include the creation of the TSA (Transportation Security Administration), the DHS (The Department of Homeland Security), the ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), and lastly the massive advancement of the US Coast Guard. Every one of the budgets of these agencies has doubled since 9/11. The creation of the transportation and security administrations primary goal is to improve the safety of all American Citizens traveling by plane. The TSA started implementing, new policies and new technological advancements.
The events of September 11, 2001 and the resulting security measures have affected border wait times, packing legislation, reporting requirements and many other export-related issues.

Their directive in the earlier days of their service was "to detect and prevent the illegal entry of aliens into the United States." and that directive is still the same today, but with some changes. The attack on the twin towers on September 11, 2001, some changes were made to that directive. Now they also look for terrorists, weapons of mass destruction, as well as other dangerous weapons, drugs, and anything that can be smuggled across the border. The increase of drug cartels in Mexico has had to make the agents more aware of might be approaching dangers that approach our
There is very little standing in the way of those who seek to harm Americans from entering the country with chemical, biological, or even nuclear weapons without ever going through customs. Past Texas Governor Rick Perry believed so strongly in this type of threat that he strengthened the Rio Grande border with one thousand Texas National Guardsman (year). Many Americans fear that Mexican drug lords co-operating with groups like ISIS or Al Queada could do great damage to
In his address to a joint session of Congress on January 8, 1918, President Woodrow Wilson declared freedom of the seas in times of peace and war. Looking back, it seems ridiculous to think that anyone could challenge the right of individuals to navigate the oceans freely. However, fast-forward to the twenty-first century and we can see an analogous debate over the issue of immigration rights, with territorial borders being the main topic of discussion. The system of immigration in the United States is complex and oftentimes restrictive, and while revisions to the system usually include increasing quotas or other solutions to let in certain groups of people who deserve special consideration (such as those whose skills are needed in a particular field), they are still very limited solutions. The obvious question that arises from letting in some people but not others is that of fairness. Is the accident of birth or luck of being in the right place at the right time enough to justify restrictive citizenship to a select few? I would argue not. I intend to argue that a commitment to human rights entails the position that borders ought to be open in order to guarantee other human rights, especially the right to migrate.

The beat-up Arab minivan slowed tentatively under the scrutinizing gaze of the Israeli soldier on duty. The routine was simple. About halfway between Damascus Gate in East Jerusalem and Ramallah, the West Bank commercial center, the driver, blaring Arabic music on his radio, maneuvered around the dusty slabs of concrete that composed the Beit Haninah Checkpoint. He waited for a once-over by the Hebrew-speaking 18-year-old and permission to continue. Checkpoints-usually just small tin huts with a prominent white and blue Israeli flag-have become an integral and accepted part of Palestinian existence under Israeli occupation. But for me, a silent passenger in the minivan, each time we entered the no man's land between Israeli territory and the West Bank, my hea...
What is border security? The United States Customs and Border Protection define border security as a “top priority is to keep terrorists and their weapons from entering the U.S. while welcoming all legitimate travelers and commerce. CBP officers and agents enforce all applicable U.S. laws, including against illegal immigration, narcotics smuggling and illegal importation. Therefore, in order for the United States to be successful in securing the nation’s border, there is an essential need for border security. This has not been an easy challenge but it is something that has to be done otherwise imagine how great a disaster our nation would be. For over 86 years, the United States' approach to securing its border with Mexico has seen many changes and improvements, all of which have contributed positively to the prevention of illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and potential terrorism.
With the United States borders extending over thousands of miles, the government does not have the ability to completely watch and secure this massive border. Therefore, a large number of illegal immigrants take an advantage of crossing the border undetected. With such large amount of illegal immigrants entering our country, the safety of our citizens is hindered because not just illegal immigrants can cross our border but criminals and terrorists can come across virtually unseen. There is basically no telling the sorts of individuals that enter the nation, killers, drug dealers, or terrorists a majority of these criminals live close to the border. With the government cannot completely control illegal immigration over the border, the security of legal citizens is at risk. All things considered, with the powerlessness to control and completely carry out the laws of immigration, potential criminals will constantly barge into the nation and further jeopardize the U.S. lives.
Bush starts by saying that we need to stop them coming over illegally, and them risking their lives in the process, by doing so keep the bad people from coming over, but also helping the ones that are doing it for a good reason and put them into a program to help them get there citizenship. It’s a problem and he wants to find a way to stop it, or even reduce it. Bush states that “Our objective is straightforward: The border should be open to trade and lawful immigration, and shut to illegal immigrants, as well as criminals, drug dealers and terrorists.” One of the main solutions that Bush addresses is to increase Border Patrol from 9,000 to 12,000 agents, and increase funding by 66 percent. Also saying that no we don’t have complete control of the border, but is determined to change that. At the same time, Bush wants to launch technologically advanced border security initiative in American history. Unfortunately, it will take time for all these new plans to come into place but Bush has a solution for that too, by adding up to 6,000 Guard members, and adding in new equipment. “The United States is not going to militarize the southern border. Mexico is our neighbor, and our friend.” (Bush’s Speech on Immigration) Bush claims that we are taking many new
The OAS is working on different limit borders to make Latin American countries safer, and they are also looking forward to prevent terrorism by strengthening control borders, by trying to eliminate drug trafficking and also by increasing security among law enforcement authorities in different countries. For example in Colombia (South America); during the meeting the OAS members discuss Colombian treaties to acquire national peace; this process supports, informs, helps and verifies initiatives from Colombian people to defend their social security in small regions of their territory.
...ourism has an influence on most areas of society, employment, environment, health, economic stability and quality of life. Therefore it is the concern of governments, the public sector, is to ensure the negative consequences is minimized. At the 1968 UN Conference on International Travel and Tourism it was made clear the government intervention and management is required for the smooth running tourist activities between countries.
