Recommended: Character development recitatif

Maniac Magee, by Jerry Spinelli is a story about a normal boy who becomes a legend. His name is Jeffrey Lionel Magee who every one refers to as “Maniac Magee”. When the story begins Jeffrey is an average kid living a normal life with regular parents. When he turns three there is a terrible accident which changes Jeffrey’s life forever. One day his parents leave him with a sitter and die in a tragic trolley car accident. Jeffrey becomes an orphan and is sent to live with his Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan who hate each other and refuse to even speak to one another” but don’t get divorced because they are Catholic. His aunt and uncles house was a place without love and to Jeffrey didn’t feel like a place he could call home.
The climax of the book happens at the spring musicale at Jeffrey’s school when Jeffrey is eleven. He finally had enough of his aunt and uncle fighting and Jeffrey begins to scream! “Then the giggling stopped, and eyes started to shift and heads started to turn, now everybody could see that this wasn’t part of the show at all, that little Jeffrey Magee wasn’t supposed to be...
