The Pigman is a book about two kids that had many avocations of drinking beer, smoking, and playing pranks. One day they started to prank call people. They came upon this one man who seemed gullible. John and Lorraine started acting like they were part of a charity and needed donations. They asked the man, who is named Mr. Pignati, for a donation of $10. Mr. Pignati is happy to give them the “donation”, and tells John and Lorraine to come to his house to pick up the money. John was completely on board with this because he was an ingrate and just wanted the poor innocent man's money. Lorraine and John show up to Mr. Pignati's house a couple of days later. They have a normal conversation, except when Mr. Pignati asks what charity they’re from …show more content…

John was still drunk, but eventually got home. The next day John and Lorraine felt so bad for what they did to Mr. Pignati, so they called him. On the phone they said sorry, offered to clean up, and tried to say many things to cheer him up, but nothing, he didn’t want anything to do with them, with mundane answers and expression. Suddenly, they thought of the idea to take him to the zoo, because Bobo could cheer him up. When they said that, the Pigman perked up a little bit and agreed to go. When they get to the zoo, not much is spoken between them, except for when they both apologized to the Pigman again, and he confessed that he wasn’t really mad anymore. As the head over to see Bobo, they go to his cage, but he doesn’t appear to be there. Nobody suspected anything, until he was not anywhere to be found. Finally, a worker came by and noticed that they were looking for him, Bobo had died. Bobo had died from Pnemonia, the employee had said.     Zindel had a Pigman just like John And Lorraine who helped him through his life and embraced him to be the talented author he really is. He worked first as a technical writer at a chemical company then as a high school chemistry teacher. As he taught he continued to write plays, Marigolds of his plays was soon turned into a television show. A children's book editor from Harper and Row asked Zindel if he wanted to be a writer and he accepted. He soon came out with The Pigman a Story about two teenagers that have an unlikely friendship with an old man. Paul Zindel was born on May 15th 1936 on Staten Island, New York. When John and Lorraine started messing around with Mr.Pignati all of their lives went from faulty to terrible. This happened because neither John nor Lorraine were mature enough to be friends with Mr.Pignati. They were two untrustworthy sophomores that threw parties and played immature pranks. When they finally realized what maturity was it was too late, they had already caused too many hardships in Mr.Pignati's life causing him to have a stroke, and ultimately his death. Which causes John and Lorraine to write an epic about Mr.pignati, so that he will always be remembered as a kind, fun loving, old man. That had helped them out of their troubles and treated them as their parents should have treated them in the first place. He was the only one to ever really care for them and treat them nicely, through piles of gifts and compliments like they have never seen before. Paul Zindel uses the literary elements symbolism and foreshadowing to express the theme, true maturity can only be attained when one forsakes the thoughtlessness of adolescence, while still maintaining a child's sense of joy and wonder.

    Before this battle, the men are starting to feast on pig and some other foods.  All of a sudden they realize that something is wrong because the observation balloons have spotted smoke from their chimney.  Soon after, shells begin to drop on them. They race down to the house and feast for four hours.  Outside houses are burning, shells are propelled down to the ground.  In eight days the men are told to return.  Only a few days later are they ordered to evacuate a village.  While on their way, Kropp and Paul see people fleeing out of the village with distress, anger, and depression.  Everyone is silent as the two walk by them, even the children holding on to their mothers for moment, Paul feels a blow on his left leg.  Albert is right next to him, and he cries out to Paul.  The men scurry to a nearby ditch.  They are hurt, but do the best that they can to run to another ditch.  Albert is straggling behind, and Paul helps him to continue by holding him up.  They reach the dug-out where Paul bandages up Kropp’s injury, a bullet for an ambulance to be taken. The ambulance picks them up, and they are given an anti-tetanus shot in their chests.  When the dressing station is reached, Paul and Kropp make sure that they are lying next to each other.  The surgeon examines Paul and tells someone to chloroform him.  Paul objects to this order, and the doctor does not do it.  The surgeon takes out a piece of shell, and puts Paul in a plaster cast.  The two are brought on the train, Albert develops a high fever so he needs to be taken off the train at the next stop.  In order to stay with his friend, Paul fakes a fever and they reach a Catholic Hospital together.  Paul is operated on and recovers faster than Kropp.  His leg is amputated, and he later goes to an institute for artificial limbs.  Paul is called back to his regiment and returns to the front.&nbsp parts, or lost body parts, and they are thankful that it is not them who are in danger of dying.  By receiving injuries, Paul and Kropp experience the war from a different perspective.
