The Bobcat baseball team is gearing up for next season with regular training and workouts this fall. Neale Richardson, head baseball coach, said preseason training is a time for his players to get stronger, figure out what position new recruits will play and bond as a team. Richardson said a large part of that is his players spending a lot of their time in the weight room. During that workout time, Jake Baker, a freshman criminal justice major and new player on the Bobcats' team, said pitchers are doing a new workout program that focuses on shoulder and core strength. Baker said the team meets five days a week, working out Monday, Wednesday Friday and scrimmaging each other Tuesdays and Thursdays. Richardson said scrimmaging outside teams …show more content…

The Bobcats’ first scrimmage was against Ecclesia College of Springdale, Ar, on Sept. 24. Richardson said there are seven new freshmen on the team this fall and they and a “really nice mix to the team.” There is a lot of great talent in the incoming players, Richardson said, and “a lot of them are going to be able to help us pretty quickly.” Richardson said he also has a high number of returning starters. “We have got a lot of experienced players back that have played a lot of innings,” Richardson said. “So I think that is really good.” Bonding together is also a main objective of the team in the preseason, Richardson said, and it is trying to do more things as a team to build unity. Richardson said that include things like group bible study on Wednesday night, community service and going to Point 11. Richardson said Point 11 is a teambuilding weekend that the team takes part in at Camp Barnabas.
