Ever since I can remember I have always had a fondness for bluegrass music. I grew up on old gospel music and later on started loving country music. I was not allowed to listen to any other kind of music but gospel. So whenever I listened to country on the radio I made sure to make it a habit to turn it back to the normal station. Over half of my family plays some type of instrument which consists of the piano, organ, saxophone, fiddle, banjo, guitar, and bass. My grandpa is 96 years old and to this day still makes fiddles. My passed great-grandpa made banjos. Everybody that knows me is aware of how much I love banjos so my aunt bought me one as a graduation present. Since most people lived in remote areas, the songs reflected life on the farm or in the hills. The people in the Appalachian Mountains grabbed on to it very fast, Mountain Music and Bluegrass Music came into play. There are a few major subgenres of bluegrass. Traditional bluegrass has musicians playing folk songs, tones with simple traditional chord progressions, and using only acoustic instruments. Later on different groups started practicing rock & roll. Bluegrass Gospel is a big hit in bluegrass music in which they use Christian lyrics. Dog has been “man’s best friend” for ages. Around Franklin County, almost everyone owns a dog. Since many owners are farmers, people in the Franklin County area need a dog who will be loyal, can herd livestock if need be, and is obedient to its master. Many would argue that country music isn't country anymore; straying too far from the older generation of fiddles, violins and guitars by incorporating a "pop" feel and focusing more on the beat than the content. This past year, I had the privilege of being one of those 170,000 people at the 142nd Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks.
In conclusion, Appalachian music can be defined as old time music, Appalachian folk music, country music, back woods country music and American Folk Music, but this type of music is and has been a staple in our society and has survived decades and with the beauty of the music it will hopefully continue for all time.

Every year there is an annual rodeo for just specific people that are sponsored. Dodge City has hosted this event for two years now at the Expo Center. The IFCA stands for International Feedlot Cowboy Association and takes place during the summer between 25-27th of June. This rodeo is special to my family because it's the time where we make major plans for everyone to have fun. My dad is part of the team roping division in which he has gotten several awards before. This is a time where people from all over Texas, Colorado, and Nebraska come to compete. You meet new people and have an experience by the end of the day.

The term rockabilly has been used to describe a type of music that was very unique and without a doubt one of the most influential genres of music on the development of rock and roll. Dating back to the 1950’s, Rockabilly was a new and interesting form of music. It combined a multitude of styles such as western, country and rhythm and blues. They coined the term “rockabilly” by combining “rock” with “hillbilly”, because it described the tone and group of people who were performing in this approach of music at the time. This group included artists such as Johnny Cash, Bill Haley, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis. With their extraordinary rhythm and hard twang in their voice they were able to produce the most distinctive and pivotal sound the world has ever known.
The Aggie is the optimum school for a student who wants to be placed in a hands on environment that creates equality and acceptance everywhere on campus. Four years ago I transferred from Holbrook High School to the Aggie to start my freshman year in a new, positive environment. Upon arrival I noticed that Aggie students and faculty accept and adjust to the odd social norms, fit specifically to our school, creating a safe environment where thoughts can be shared freely. The combination of the diversity of students and extensive challenging vocational and academic work, has shaped me into the person I am today.
