She states that people create avatars online to be represent their self the way they want to be. However, being able to change a certain aspect of an individual life alters the way they perceive who they are. According to Turkle “people who gain fluency in expressing multiples aspect of self may find it harder develop authentic selves. Some people who write narratives for their screen avatars may grow up with too little experience to share their real feelings with other people” (289). The meaning behind Turkle words is that technology is influencing how individuals view themselves, and become remapping the idea that humans are social
The second reason there might be some limitations is because it could be difficult to translate the core therapeutic conditions into an actual practice with some cultures. For example, some clients are accustomed to indirect communication and they would not be comfortable with a therapist showing direct expressions towards them. A third reason that this type of therapy might be a limitation is some culture groups go by collectivism instead of focusing on being an individual. In these cultures, clients are influenced by social expectations and not motivated by their own expectations. This is a major limitation for person-centered therapy because they focus on self-actualization, understanding the self, and trying to improve ones self.
Communication discrimination and conflicts among members of different generations occur because they are unable to find a common ground between them on how to communicate or manage information flow. Consequently, managers are forced to install strategies that seek to restore sanity across these groups. However, the biggest problem that they face in this regard is that they do not have an elaborate metric of technique that they can use to measure whether or not the strategy that they have put in place is working. This is where the communication adaptation theory comes in. by observing the degree of willingness exhibited by employees to accommodate the communication technique or medium preferred by their counterparts from a different generation helps the management determine
I would think that those who fall under this population to be hesitant to want to receive services, due to their safety. Even if they are legal immigrants there are still people in America who do not agree that they should be here or even working in the states (Gelfand, 1989). I believe that if they are working then they are trying to make a difference for their families and deserves the rights we as Americans have. I think something case managers need to be aware of is the cultural needs and barriers. A common one could just be language.
For instance, a therapist must become aware of the sociopolitical dynamics that form not only their clients’ views, but their own as well. Racial and cultural dynamics may interfere into the helping process and cause misdiagnosis, confusion, pain and reinforcement of biases and prejudices towards their client. Although, even if the therapist is from the same cultural background this can still be hard to counsel these clients because of different traditions, language dialects, family values, and ancestry. This does not mean that the therapist cannot help these clients, but this could hinder the therapist and client relationship if brought up in an entire different environment. For instance, you can have two individuals from the same cultural background and family values, but these individuals live in an entirely different environment or learned different family values and belief system.
So, family influence can change one’s personality because there are great influences and are close by. Next, peer pressure influences us to do things that are different, which alters your personality. In a society there are different thing that are considered good and bad socially. Everyday, people have to make decisions that will affect some aspect of their lives. Whether that outcome is positive or negative, that decision is something that cannot be taken back. Technology acts as an outlet for people to disengage from the choices that they have made and the factors that have disrupted by those choices. Things associated with technology such as social media, allows people to escape for their reality and portray a different persona than who they truly are, without technology people would have no other option but to be themselves and deal with the weight of their everyday
They attempt to pursue their independence by seeking employment, trying new relationships and generally trying to fit into a particular social group. Sometimes this may lead to over identifying with groups because of the need to belong. The over identification can lead to intolerance and aggression towards those that are... ... middle of paper ... ...h biases of minimal differences rather than major inequality’s. To summarise Erikson supports this claim but his focus is mostly on the process of creating identity through identifying with similar types of people. He was interested in how adolescents go through ‘identity crisis’ to create (ego identity) or how failure to accomplish a secure ego leads to role diffusion.
Who are we after all? “In Defense of Mask,” by Kenneth Gergen he states that it is not possible for humans to find a coherent self identity without having a solution. The idea of developing a “coherent sense of identity” makes us act a certain way to please the wish of others. Gergen wants to find intentions of an individual 's choice of mask and how outward appearances and inward feelings we all come across. The author proves his statement by experimenting on people who had a positive and negative reaction from an interviewer. Therefore, the “coherent identity” versus “multiple identities” is detrimental to many individuals when they are trying to perceive into someone that they wish to become.
Wondering why somebody would want to put their lives online made me think that bloggers are just seeking some kind of attention. I looked into this to see what attention they are looking for and discovered many things. Not all blogs seek attention, but some do. It all depends on which kind of blog the person created. The first thing about blogs that I discovered is that there isn’t one kind.
