Biography of John Enst Steinbeck Jr.

Famous novelist John Ernst Steinbeck Jr. was born on February 27, 1902, in Salinas, California. His books, including his ground-breaking work The Grapes of Wrath often dealt with social and economic problems. His father, John Ernst Steinbeck, tried several different jobs to keep food on the table for his family: He owned a feed-and-grain store, managed a flour plant and had a job as the treasurer of Monterey County. His mom Olive Hamilton Steinbeck, was a ex- schoolteacher. For the most part, Steinbeck who grew up with three sisters had a nice childhood.
He was shy, but smart, according to people who knew John Steinbeck, Steinbeck decided to become a writer at the age of 14 most of the time locking himself in his bedroom to write poems and stories. In 1919 Steinbeck became a student at Stanford University a decision that he did just to please his parents but the writer with potential would prove that he didn’t really need college. Over the next six years Steinbeck was going in and out of school leading him to just dropping out for good in 1925 without a degree.
Following Stanford, Steinbeck tried to go for it as a self-employed writer. He moved to New York City for a short time where he found a job as a construction worker and a newspaper reporter, but then went back to California where he took a job as a custodian in Lake Tahoe. It was during this time that Steinbeck wrote his first book, Cup of Gold and met and married his first wife Carol Henning. In the next 10 years, with Carol's support and money he continued to put a lot of work into his writing. Then John Steinbeck left a legacy and got some of his books banned from schools in this past decade because of so much profanity used in his books Of mice and Men ranked 6 in the top 100 banned books not to say that the book that gave him the fame was also banned from all schools and school libraries.
And in 1962, the author received the Nobel Prize for Literature. Then Steinbeck took a 3 month tour traveling through 40 states in a truck. In total Steinbeck wrote of 27 books including novels and poems. Steinbeck then died of a heart disease due to the fact that he was lifelong smoker on December 20, 1968 at his house in New York City. Following his wishes, his body was cremated, and buried at the Hamilton family gravesite in Salinas, with those of his parents and maternal grandparents. His third wife, Elaine, was buried in the same site in 2004.
