Aiming to succeed in the rapidly developing world, possession of knowledge of several languages is no longer useful supplementary, but an indispensable quality of citizens of the globalized world. First theorists were convinced that there was no possibility to possess the knowledge of several languages at the same level. There was a belief that native language is overwhelmed by foreign, thus decreasing the level of its knowledge. However, modern research have eventually proved that there is a prospect to achieve the balance between the languages (Mocinic 2011). Spain is an advantageous example of successful practice of immersion education. Regional ministry of Madrid in the school year 2004-2005 stated that development of English skills leads to new perspectives in the future (Brindusa, Cabrales, Carro 2012). The aim of this paper is to evidence that bilingual education is beneficial to Spanish students. First, this essay will define what is bilingual education, next, it is going to describe the bilingualism in Spanish educational institutions.
Bilingual education is such a program of education, which aims to improve knowledge in foreign languages. The curriculum composed in such way that all of the subjects apart from those connected with the native language are taught in the second language, thus developing skills in it, as it is used either at work or communication. Studying languages is an efficient investment into the future, as it may favor to great opportunities in future life and career. For example, according to conducted estimates of the influence of language knowledge on salaries, there was a 39 percent rise in wages of those who knew English language (Brindusa, Cabrales, Carro 2012).
