Biblical Leaders: A Self Analysis Paper Based on Joshua

A great leader is a person who takes and guides a group to a certain direction or goal. Leaders do not just designate tasks and responsibilities to the people under them, they teach them, and help them complete their tasks. The purpose of this paper is to discuss a great leader who was faithful to God until he took his last breath. We will explore Joshua’s history, personality and leadership style.

History/Background
Every person needs good leadership especially in times of struggle and doubt, for those that lead and may one day serve as leaders, Joshua serves as a role model. According to Damazio, “Leaders are the first to model the will of God for others to follow, he or she takes the forefront and leads by example, whether battle with God’s enemies or in establishing truth and justice in Gods kingdom (Frank, 1996, p, 19)”. Joshua therefore stands before us as an example of what it takes to be a great leader.
We must insist on the historical truthfulness of the Bible as it reports the life of Joshua. Joshua is the compelling history of the fulfillment of the promise. “So Jehovah gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein” (Josh. 21:43 NIV). This is the land God had promised Israel through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Some of Joshua’s history includes that he was able to possess the land of Canaan; through faith and obedience to God it was fulfilled. It is impressive to note the great influence that Joshua had with those of his generation; this shows that he was a leader of great influence. Joshua’s qualities of his background, personality and leadership styles along with God’s mighty hand qualified him to be able to obtain victory. Though Joshua faced real flesh and blood battles, he shows us how today we can put on the "whole armor of God" to defeat the powers of darkness to come out with a total victory. In a world where Christian role models seem increasingly rare, Joshua reminds us that some of the most worthy examples of godly character are still the biblical figures who brought power, wisdom and inspiration to God's people throughout the ages. Joshua was a faithful man of God, whose focus in life was being faithful to the end. Principles flow through Joshua’s life that guides us through the maze of challenges we face in today’s world and help us to emerge victoriously.
