The novel Beyond the Blue Event Horizon is the sequel to Frederik Pohl’s Nebula Award winning novel, Gateway. Without prior knowledge of the first book’s plot, the sequel is extremely hard to read and get into. The story starts on a ship somewhere in space with a mysterious boy named Wan. On a different ship, the Herter-Halls company is making a journey to the Food Factory since there was a shortage on Earth. As the book progresses, the two ships meet up, and they meet an alien race. The aliens imprison the Herter-Halls company. The book’s characters, plot, and setting help make this book interesting and directional.
The characters in this book are, for the most part, resilient and knowledge hungry. According to Pohl, the future is going to be a harsh time for humans. As a result, the humans should try to find better ways of living. The main characters are forced to endure many hardships, including imprisonment: “‘…I must never let myself be caught’” (Pohl 151). Wan said this in order to convey to the Earthlings that the Old Ones are dangerous and should be avoided. When the humans get caught, it is as dangerous as Wan said. Later, the company escapes, and quickly recovers from the brutal harm done to them by discovering many new things about this alien race. However, people can’t rely on only discoveries. Albert, a computer program, helps Robin through many scientific reasoning dilemmas Robin might have: “‘So mass itself – according to Mach’s Principle – depends on some external system…’” (Pohl 296). This shows that Albert’s reasoning is beyond par and is very credible to Robin. Robin uses this program often in order to learn more about how to accomplish his lifetime goal of saving his lost girlfriend. Klara. Without Albert’s kn...

...t include a glowing, shiny place with holographic tools. The tone also helped shape the story, as most of the story was dark and gloomy because of the unpredicted space travel. One event explained the possibility of people stranded around the galaxy. The ominous feel of what might happen to them makes this book easier to connect to. The setting kept the story fun to read through its imaginative properties.
In retrospect, this book is fun to read, interesting, and page turning due to its amazing characters, unpredictable plot, and imaginative setting. The combination of those three elements make the story better than average. Since this is the second book of a trilogy, the third book will be a great ending if it continues having these same elements. Even though there is strong language used, this book is a recommended read for mature, science fiction loving people.
The whole idea of time and black holes has been questioning scientist and many common people for decades. Whether or not the theories provided make it physically possible to allow us to ever use any type of a black hole to an advantage? Technology over these past years has allowed us to learn more and more about what black holes are and what they can do. While also allowing ourselves to discover new possibilities that they might bring forth to greater innovations in our near future. But we can only imagine, through our knowledge and technology, what a black hole could do for us, due to all the dangers they bring forth.
Fans of the novel like the way you get to see inside Grace and Marty 's personalities, and the way that these two kids are just like any other, if not a little more unusual. You will find yourself glued to the pages until you have finished reading the novel. The adventures will make it so that you only breath about every once in a while and you will like the characters you are reading about, even if you are an adult. The novel is vivid in description and it is almost as though you are able to make a movie of things in your head. Some felt that they were along for the ride with the heroes, Grace and Marty, in this one and they enjoyed every moment of
This book is a very interesting read, if you have some self discipline. I mean that you need some self discipline because this book didn’t really captivate me in the sense that I couldn’t put it down. But after reading it for a while, I started to appreciate the author’s way of describing the characters and actions in this book.
I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys historical fiction books where the characters learn life-altering lessons. I also feel that people of all ages would enjoy this book because it’s messages and theme was very positive. While I did enjoy this book, I think I will not be reading another historical fiction novel for my upcoming book response.
With the upcoming brand-new installment in the legendary and beloved Star Wars saga, I decided to give props to some of the greatest sci-fi movies to ever grace the silver screen. All of the movies on this list either influenced or were influenced by the Star Wars franchise in both large and small ways. Of course, this list is my own opinion; feel free to share your ideas in the comments or yell at me on twitter.Event Horizon is a 90's horror film set in deep-space that includes fantastic performances from stars like Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne. A salvaging crew is commissioned to find a lost craft called the Event Horizon designed by an eccentric Doctor played by Neill. The craft disappeared into a wormhole and when the salvage crew goes
In summary, one will find this book to be an exciting read. There was an original plot, a female lead, and character development to appeal to all types of readers. After reading this science fiction novel, one will know to keep their friends close and their enemies closer.
In the book it shows us how civilizations end and why they do. First man came to mars when Martians were there. Then he soon took over mars. The main reason man came to mars is because he was fleeing from the war back home. But soon when the war got to an extent he went back to earth. But few people stayed back, and then they became Martians. That basically shows what had happened in the past.
...to enjoy in this comic style book. The passage of time is not necessarily well defined in this book, it seems to go really fast and then really slow. For me that aspect is somewhat annoying. The less traditional reader will enjoy the comic book style used here where the pictures are in many instances more important than the actual words which appear in thought bubbles on the page. The plot is not necessarily extremely obvious, but I find that, at least in my opinion, most comic books don’t really have much of a plot. I think the authors did a good job of staying true to the style of writing intended for this publication and the dialogue seemed completely in line with the cartoon characters. I am not a fan of comics, this book didn’t really change that for me, but I think that it is an overall good piece of literature for those who enjoy this style of writing.
The Chrysalids, by John Wyndham is a great novel in my opinion. It occurs in the future but it focuses on
All in all, this novel is a good read, so long as the reader takes the time to think about everything that goes into it.
My overall opinion of this book is good I really liked it and recommend it to anyone. It is a good book to read and it keep you interested throughout the whole book.
The novel's narrator is D-503, the chief engineer of the first interstellar space ship. He lives in a completely controlled state, the United State: one government, a walled-off nation, no privacy, everything timed down to the minute. Because of his prominent role, he is targeted by the female head of a revolutionary movement, I-330. He falls in love with her and becomes very confused--anything that happens unpredictably throws him into complete cognitive estrangement. Up until the events of the novel, his life had in every way been circumscribed and regimented. This is probably the main strength of the novel, to ...
I enjoyed the book because the scenarios are very well described so the reader can clearly imagine the events in their mind.
Even though it is science fiction, the characters are engaging and understandable. The story focuses more on the characters situation than the aliens trying to take over, with
Douglas Adam’s book, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, takes readers on a fast-paced adventure through the universe where things are more than they originally seem to be. The protagonist, Arthur Dent, is thrown from his simple life into an intergalactic adventure beginning with the demolition of Earth. Throughout the journey he is accompanied by his alien friend, Ford Perfect, and encounters a wide array of alien races and unlikely experiences dictated by the Improbability Drive. Later, the two are roped into a grand heist and quest for the lost planet Magrathea by the galactic president which makes matters more complicated (and strange). Not only does Arthur learn that Earth was actually
