Cultural Analysis of “Sorry” by: Beyonce
She is famously known for racking up chart topping albums, and songs, Beyonce channels worldwide fame in today’s society. She always look to broaden her approach and touch on many subjects dealing with the creative nature and emotions of humans. According to her latest album “Lemonade”, many people find a much deeper meaning in her songs than what they bargained for, but this is no surprise due to the visual album containing many broad elements of symbolism, and touching on hidden conversational topics of our decade. Focusing on one song in particular, which is titled “Sorry” gives very vivid lyrics of a woman’s inner and outer emotions . A common theme throughout the song is to teach women to stand up for themselves in a breakup, and reflect a stronger side of a female, one who is more dominant than than a male. Beyonce paints a vivid picture through her song that can reflect on an individuality of a female, and gives insight to how a female can “let go” of her troubles. She states “He trying to roll me up, I ain’t picking up/ Headed to the club, I ain’t thinking ‘bout you” (Knowles Lines 7 & 8). It creates a scene that women are underlooked and must fight and sometimes find negative ways to get away from men problems. It shows how women are a more dominant figure in this situation and that men are the one’s who will feel the negative impacts, and that a woman is going to overpower a man in a playful relationship. The overall importance of this song is to give power to a woman, and to show how females can have strength and confidence in the middle of a confusing breakup, and that a women doesn’t have to seemly apologize for a problematic
