The story of Medea is a tragic betrayal of love and heartache worse than any other in Greek Mythology. This is due to the fact that Medea had no mercy for the lives of her children, brother or the new wife of her former love. Medea is a powerful sorceress and daughter of a king. Medea falls in love with the son of Aison, Jason, not knowing of the heartache that lies ahead. She first met Jason when he was on a quest to retrieve a golden fleece from King Aeëtes, who happened to be Medea’s father, in order to win back his kingdom from Pelias. When they met Medea fell deeply in love with Jason. In fear of Jason being killed, she made a deal with her father to help Jason complete the quest he was on. She helped Jason retrieve the Golden Fleece whilst falling in love with him. Jason then betrayed Medea and pursued another princess. Medea’s pain of rejection consumed her and she chose to justify hurting Jason anyway she could to the point of death of his loved ones. The betrayal Medea faces by Jason drove her to acts of vengeance against him causing her to go to the extreme by killing his new bride and his two children he had with her.
Jason found and married Creusa, daughter of King Creon after he and Medea fled to the land of Corinth. Jason’s purpose for this betrayal was to gain power of the kingdom …show more content…

Medea felt that she won Jason because she had helped him fulfil his quest with her magical powers and relationship to King Aeëtes. Medea’s rage consumed her and ended up ruining Jason’s chance of ruling the kingdom. She did this by poisoning Creusa, which led to her being burned to death. Medea justifies her wicked actions and tries her best to make Jason regret his decision to marry another. While this is a cruel way to punish Jason, he did leave her as if she was nothing to
