The definition of “hero” has stayed about the same for many years. For example a well-known hero Beowulf, a man that fought a monster (Grendel) for the people of a nearby town. Although heroes from back then have many traits as heroes of today they are still divided by their strengths, reasoning for why they do what they do, and most of all how they became a hero.
Beowulf is most known for his fighting, that is his strength as said in lines 2-5 “greater and stronger than anyone else in the world”. Then later in the story, he slayed a monster that created problems for the town. This is similar to a current day hero; a security guard. Their job is to protect the people and make sure everything stays in order. There are many more heroes that do not need to fight to become a hero. To be a hero does not always mean you fight. In contrast heroes of today do not fight monsters they may fight crime or many other things that the world is having problems with. …show more content…

For instance Beowulf slayed the monster for the people as the quote from the book “as soon as he heard how Grendel filled the nights with horror he demanded a boat be filled out”. He is willing to go to another town for people he does not even know to fight a monster that is known to kill everyone he comes in contact with. Heroes of today have the same courage and bravery as Beowulf they will do what is needed to be done for the people around them, or people in need of help. For example a fire fighter, they go out on each call and go into burning houses risking their life to save ours. They may have families, can die or get seriously injured but are willing to take that chance for a person they don’t even know. That is a true
