Beowulf and Grendel Character Comparison Beowulf embodies the traits of a true hero, Grendel exemplifies the traits of a demon or monster, they may seem like the total opposite, but believe me, they have more in common than we think. First of all, both, Grendel and Beowulf, value family and relationships. Also, they both have the courage to fight till the finish, which ends with both of them dying. They both possess courage, selflessness, and loyalty, that’s already seven things they have in common! Allow me to elaborate.
Both, Grendel and Beowulf possess valor, Grendel has the courage to trudge into Heorot and fight for his cause, which is almost the same as Beowulf trekking all the way to land that isn’t even his to fight for their safety.
