Benefits of Technology at Children’s Hospital Research Foundation
There are several factors that are influencing the efficient use of technology in healthcare research. The main factors that contributing to the effective use of the information technology at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center are security of the data, availability of the data, data analysis and reduction in the medical errors. According to Bates and Gawande (2003)“The growing sophistication of computers and software should allow information technology to play a vital part in reducing that risk — by streamlining care, catching and correcting errors, assisting with decisions, and providing feedback on performance”(p2526).
Information technology at Children’s Hospital Research Foundation is used to improve the outcomes, reduce number of medical errors and help the medical research in pediatrics achieve better results that will serve the families in the community and the nation.
Management Approach
In Biomedical Informatics, the management is IT savvy and is constantly evaluating various new technology sources to provide the better information gathering , sharing and analysis techniques to the researchers. The primary objective of the management is to help the researchers to capture and analyze data as effectively and as efficiently as they could.
The management’s approach is based upon certain vision and mission statements to serve the research community. CHRF’s most of the management staff expects that the information technology should help the researchers in Cincinnati Children’s to capture the data related to their studied with minimal mistakes. ...bility to develop data entry forms using rapid development tools as well as making ad-hoc queries against millions of rows in data warehouse is proving very efficient for researchers when government is restricting funds allocated for research and at the same cutting down the grant tenures. Use of latest technology and support from management has really helped the researchers to get what they need at the right time.

Informatics allows researchers to take patient data and enter those into a database and computer system which analyses the data. Then the researcher is able to interpret the data and publish their findings in order to improve patient care. Informatics allow nurses to research numerous topics to implement into their everyday practice. A health care provider can go to a website, such as guidelines.gov, to find articles that has been researched and has a positive correlation between two variables that can benefit both the patients and nurses. Let’s say I wanted to improve “end of shifts reports”. Based on guidelines.gov researchers integrated multiple searches from different databases and weighted each one based on a rating scale that rated the outcome evidence levels. The ending result of the search revealed, “It is recommended that nurses perform bedside shift to shift report to increase patient/family satisfaction (National Guideline Clearinghouse, 2014).” From reading the article, the nurse could take the end results and implement bedside reports or the nurse could continue her search to find another article that supports her finding before sharing it with

Keeping patients safe is essential in today’s health care system, but patient safety events that violate that safety are increasing each year. It was only recently, that the focus on patient safety was reinforced by a report prepared by Institute of medicine (IOM) entitled ” To err is human, building a safer health system”(Wakefield & Iliffe,2002).This report found that approx-imately 44,000 to 98,000 deaths occur each year due to medical errors and that the majority was preventable. Deaths due to medical errors exceed deaths due to many other causes such as like HIV infections, breast cancer and even traffic accidents (Wakefield & Iliffe, 2002). After this IOM reports, President Clinton established quality interagency coordination task force with the help of government agencies. These government agencies are responsible for making health pol-icies regarding patient safety to which every HCO must follow (Schulman & Kim, 2000).

With so any vast abilities of computers and electronic health records currently, the Federal government felt is was necessary to create a position in order to oversee this rapidly growing industry. That is why ins 2004, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technologies (ONC) was founded (HealthIT.Gov, 2016). The ONC is a major role player in the implementation of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH).
United States of America healthcare sector is transitioning; there are changes in how health organizations are delivering their care services to the American citizens. Several issues are driving these changes in the healthcare sector, which include the need to increase the safety and privacy of health information on people and organization. Health information technology assists the organization in improving quality and harnesses the operational costs. It allows seamless sharing of health information and improving organization’s administrative efficiency. Health Information System (HIS) is a system used in the health sector that can capture, store information, manage the data and transmit /send data to the required health department (Balgrosky,2014).
