Society gains a lot by supporting culturally diverse environments. In this research paper I am going to present my thoughts and opinions on the arguments. What I believe and then back my opinions and information up with quotes and research from articles on Diversity and Innovation. Accepting the diverse differences and cultures, means that the society can benefit and grow with more ideas. As the Nation’s human capital grows more women, people of color, gays or lesbians, transgenderism and other ethnic minorities enter the workforce. The society benefits from these ethnic and cultural groups because they can bring even more ideas and inventions to the table. “A McKinsey & Company study, for example, found that the increase in women’s overall share of labor in the United States—women went from holding 37 percent of all jobs to 47 percent over the past 40 years—has accounted for about a quarter of current GDP.” (source 1) Which means that more women are gaining credibility for work or ideas. A more diverse workforce captures more things from the consumer market. When they bring more people from the women, gays, lesbians, blacks, and other cultures there is a higher increase in the market …show more content…
“Census data tell us that by 2050 there will be no racial or ethnic majority in our country. Further, between 2000 and 2050 new immigrants and their children will account for 83 percent of the growth in the working-age population. Our economy will grow and benefit from these changing demographics if businesses commit to meeting the needs of diverse communities as workers and consumers.” (source 1) Workers and consumers are the key to the growth of a company and without these companies have no chance of success. Therefore when the companies are more adaptive to the diversity then they are sure to get more people applying and more people interested in the products of one
Like most developed countries, America has witnessed the benefits of racial and ethnic diversity for several years. This is because the workforce today is more diverse than say, fifty years ago. Particularly, whites occupied higher offices than other races in the past. Today, the workforce embraces the fact that diversification not only results in better talents, but is also a necessity for the global economy (Byrd and Scott, 2014). The global environment has facilitated diversification because businesses are extending their operations beyond local and regional boundaries. This requires an understanding of varied cultures and markets hence, the need to diversify the workforce. Consequently, businesses hired experts with cultural experience of different geographical locations thus increase job diversification based on racial and ethnic lines. Therefore, race and ethnicity affects the current workforce by increasing job performance, fostering globalization, and improving
People want to be hired and work for companies where they know their skills are needed and they feel important. They do not want to be hired based on their gender, race or ethnicity. When an organization increases their diversity, they are able to enhance positive effects within their job. Diversity never needs to be looked at in a negative way, because no one wants to be put in a group just to meet a quota. People want to be put inside of groups because others want to include them and they feel their peers will respect their differences. When employees are not included they feel dissatisfied with their job which leads to conflict, miscommunication and eventually leads to
A diverse workforce more closely reflects the global marketplace that the organization competes in. With the growing number of Asian, Hispanic and other minority populations, it makes sense for companies to promote and strive for diversity in the workplace. By doing this, businesses create the very conditions needed to produce more creative outcomes to the problems and challenges they will be faced with.
The world is a forever changing climate of people. This requires companies to change with the times. The introduction of different cultures, beliefs, and diverse backgrounds requires a new approach for managing a larger arrange of people. People no longer work in a time of intolerance. Diversity is about the many things that make us individuals and also the similarities that bring us together. Companies should diversify the organizations because it is shown that diversification will increase profits, build a more cohesive work environment, and show appreciation for foreign culture.
Diversity in the work place has generally been thought of as purely an employment equity issue. However, diversity is coming to be recognized as an asset which can, like any other asset that is well managed, contribute to the bottom line. Diversity is growing almost as quickly as the number of software vendors at an accounting convention (Talbot-Allen, 1995, p. 3)
Diversity problems are currently thought of necessary and are projected to become even more necessary within the future because of increasing variations within the U.S. population. Corporations ought to target diversity and appearance for tactics to become all-inclusive organizations as a result of diversity has the potential of yielding bigger productivity and competitive blessings (SHRM, 1995). Stephen G. Butler, co-chair of the Business-Higher Education Forum, believes that diversity is a useful competitive asset that America cannot afford to ignore (Robinson, 2002). Managing and valuing diversity may be a key part of effective individuals management, which might improve work productivity (Black Enterprise, 2001).
America’s workforce is continuously changing. Businesses today hire and retain culturally diverse employees to compete in the globalize market. Companies are developing ways to tap into and capitalize upon the talents of their workforces. They are discovering how to value the diversity of their workforces and the potential that diversity brings in flexibility, ingenuity and problem solving are helping them achieve their goals.
Diversity, is understood as the, “differences in the underlying attributes or non-observable differences” a term that has been utilized more and become commonplace (Pynes, 1997). However, this was not always the case. Shockingly it is still not fully applied in the workplace and this lack of respect for all individuals has led to both physical and emotional traumas to its victims. At times to fulfill the diversity quota a company will higher minorities in order to show they are attempting to have a more culture workplace. This can have its benefits but at a cost. A company should not only be focused on only filling a quota but on the criteria of the person being and how they can help the future of the company.
Diversity in workforce is growing in all countries special USA, Canada and Europe. With having more diverse work environment organization can produce better performance. It is important for the companies to know diversity and how to handle the issues relating to it. Also the need of the diverse workforce is getting more not only because there are different people but also because they can produce better results with having different types of people working. Leaders in the organizations should learn diversity (differences of gender, age, sex and religion in their work environment and also to communicate will between them) and how to manage it effectively.
A diverse economy is a strong economy. Organizations with a diverse workforce can compete in the ever growing economy (Ingram,
Cultural diversity is increasingly important due to higher globalization and the ease of movement from one industry to another, and throughout the world; organizations that embrace this diversity have been shown to have a better internal culture, higher creativity, better relationships, and resistance to groupthink mentalities (Grivastava & Kleiner, 2015). Diversity is often thought of as ethnic, but diversity can cover things ranging from diverse religious views to different perspectives on how work should be accomplished. Diversity is not a weakness, quite the opposite, diversity can build a competitive advantage for organizations that make the effort to understand and cultivate it. Diversity is increasing, not decreasing, and this is evidenced
To accurately explain why the workplace has become more diverse for minorities over the years, one needs to understand first, what workplace diversity is. Workplace diversity is defined as all forms of differences among individuals including but not limited to age, culture, religion, personality, social status and sexual orientation. For minorities particularly teens, this diversity has grown into a global phenomenon. For some leaders, the word teen and workplace don’t mix. One cannot see such young, mainly inexperienced people benefitting their company and outlook in any way. Diversity can create a portal for innovation. By being exposed to different people and cultures, a teen can understand the significance of different thought processes and problems.
In the future diversity in the workplace may be required for companies that want to be competitive, because diverse ideas help create new solutions to help overcome obstacles. To take advantage of the synergy that diversity brings to the workplace, companies must develop long term goals and strategies. A long term strategy acknowledges differences and embraces them to encourage free thinking among employees. By incorporating diversity as an asset, companies can better prepare themselves to face the future. As their customers become more diverse, so should their workforce.
Businesses that promote diversity in today's global marketplace are better able to attract and retain the best talent. Employing a diverse workforce allows a company to utilize the potential within the job market to its fullest and contributes to overall economic growth and prosperity. Differences among co-workers should not divide a workplace. Rather, differences among co-workers should be used to foster creativity and innovation, thereby driving profitability and business success.
The researcher believes, in this fast-changing era, any kind of company or organization should be able to improve the quality of workplace diversity by having some important main factor to boost the new paradigm of a diverse workplace, such as:
