Are you thinking of going to college, and you want to study online, rather than earning a degree the traditional way? You may think that earning a degree online is cheaper than getting your education the way many students do. In addition, you may think online classes are more convenient for busy adults than regular classes. Such thinking would be right, but have you considered a hybrid learning environment, which actually might be better for you than either alternative for a variety of reasons? What is a Hybrid Learning Environment? You may wonder what a hybrid learning environment is and how it differs from a traditional classroom setting or a traditional online college program. A hybrid learning environment simply combines traditional and …show more content…
Students have the opportunity to comprehend new technologies by using adaptive learning technologies. Teachers are better able to help their students reach their maximum potential. When students do meet in a classroom, their time is often of a higher quality than those in a traditional program, but students still receive the classroom time they wouldn 't in a regular online program. Students still receive regular face-to-face time with professors they might not in a traditional …show more content…
In a hybrid environment, you can bring your technology devices, so you can use adaptive learning software, and you can use e-readers, e-textbooks on e-readers, computers, and tablets. You save money on gas by not commuting as much and childcare costs for your children. Our statistics online degrees can cost as much as 80 times less than traditional degrees. Such Programs Personalize Learning Learning in a hybrid environment is always more personalized than a traditional classroom, while still providing the advantages of some in-class lecture time and time to interact with other students, that those in a traditional online program don 't have. Professors in a traditional program stand in front of a large classroom and give lectures, while not having the extra time to help students who need it, like they do with a hybrid program. Bright students can 't work ahead in a traditional program, like they can with a hybrid environment. Students can better work at their own pace. Students Benefit From the Additional Use of
American students in the United States are recognizing the diverse learning styles that non-traditional students are bringing to the classroom. A recent study suggests that, within the next decade, one-half of colleges in the U.S. will close the doors to their physical classrooms as more and more classes go online (Bower 3). Duke University has already begun changing the way they approach student learning by offering classes online. This helps the school attract more non-traditional students who may have families, work full-time, or have a number of responsibilities outside school.
Online courses require self-motivation and discipline in order to be successful. The true benefits of online courses are that you have the flexibility to work them in your life schedule and can take them at your own pace within reason. Therefore from my personal experience I highly support online learning over brick and mortar traditional learning. When I started taking online classes it was because I could not fit a fulltime class load into my fulltime working schedule. It is the convenience of online cl...
Online enrollment is rapidly increasing every year. Even though there is a tremendous amount of positive feedback about online learning, there are others that see nothing but cons. I, on the other hand, see nothing but the postives. Online learning keeps students motivated to do their work because they are allowed to work at their own pace and can take classes most traditional high schools do not offer.
I personally like having online classes. I work a very hectic schedule and it is much easier for me to run to a computer and get my assignments and do my work all at the same time, rather than to travel to and from classes and sit in class for hours at the time. I am disciplined enough to handle independent classes, and I guess in order to do well in a class that is entirely over the internet, you would have to be disciplined.?, (Rice) said one individual who likes taking online classes. Online based classes have many different advantages. One major advantage to taking online classes is the time factor. Taking an online class can allow one to basically ?go to class? on their own time. They do not have to rearrange their schedules to accommodate going to class. One can just set aside a certain amount of time each day or week that fits their schedule; there is no worrying about being late and rushing to get to class on time. If one?s schedule allows 5-9 hours per week to working on course assignments, then online learning has great advantages. Many people who hav...
One of the major advantages of an online degree program is the flexibility it provides to someone working a demanding job, living geographically removed from a college campus, or that simply finds it most convenient for a host of other reasons. These challenges of the modern workforce have in fact been the big driver behind the exponential rise in online degree programs over the past decade. Furthermore, the flexibility provided by an online degree program enables tailoring a program matched to personal learning style and pace.
Copies of lectures or academic videos are sent to the student to study and take notes on to complete other assignments. Many students fight traffic to get to class on time, this trouble is now obsolete as classes are attended from the comfort of your own home. Online education gives students convenience and flexibility by allowing them to choose their own class dates, enabling them to go to work night or day. No special library trips are required for readings as all readings are available online. These are just a few benefits you can reap for enrolling in an online degree
Getting your education is a very important thing to do in your lifetime, and there are many ways to do so. The two most common ways of getting your degree, whether it be a high school diploma or a college degree, are online courses and traditional courses, which is face to face, classroom classes. According to the results of a new national research study (Karambelas 1), 78% of more than 1000 students surveyed still believe that it is easier to learn in a classroom, in other words taking traditional courses. So, when taking online courses rather than traditional courses, you should compare and contrast keeping up with your work, making sure you have a stable place to do your work, and managing your time precisely.
A high quality hybrid course is not constructed simply by attaching web content to an existing classroom curriculum. Ideally, it should be a unique blended entity that provides improvements on both the online and offline classroom model to create a new and challenging educational experience. Education researcher Norman Vaughan asserts that hybrid education should change the tone of classroom sessions “from a presentational format (i.e., lecturing and information dissemination) to one of active learning (i.e., discussion and debate)” (83). Vaughan then goes on to cite fellow researcher Dodge to bolster his claim that “this form of active learning ‘involves putting our students in situations which compel them to read, speak, listen, think deeply, and write’” (Dodge...
Most of the time, a student cannot learn at their own pace of the subject because the teacher has a schedule and other students so that student can easily fall behind or not feel as if they are learning. Also, if a student misses a class due to an illness or some other sort of reason they will get behind in classes, while with online class the student can still work while sick or the class will not move on without them. Some schools do not offer some classes that students wish to take. For example, some schools may not present a language class that the pupil wishes to take but online they have a better chance of being able to take that
Furthermore, some may suggest that online learning is benefiting our students in society. There has been a breakthrough in time and geographical limitations of education via online courses (Ho, 2009). Online education is cost-effective, efficient, and easily accessible (Schmeeckle, 2003). Online classes are used for individual and independent learning in which the student can learn at their own pace (Gonzalez, 2009). Not only is online education beneficial for breaking down barriers, online education has the potential to help students learn material more efficiently. Students are more likely to seek help from their instructors when the material is taught online (Whipp & Lorentz, 2009). Computer use in statistical classes could help decrease math anxiety (Gundy, Morton, Liu, & Kline, 2006). In a study that measured online students’ ability to achieve the same efficiency of course material as face-to-face students, at least 98% of students reported that they had, so one may be lead to believe that online learning is just as efficient as face-to-face courses (Liebowitz, 2003). With all of the positive aspects of online education, one may wonder why there is any debate as to whether or not online education is beneficial for
...nditions. Students taking online classes might find it easier to attend family gatherings, traveling, and attended to personal needs. An online class allows the students to work on their own time, to whereas the traditional classes they have to stick with a schedule.
First, with an online education, the traditional school system for grade schools and colleges or universities can save money because there would be no need for facilities and equipment. The University of Florida predicts that there will be several grade schools taking on online learning in the next ten years that mean students will improve academically, and schools can save money (Lansford, 2009). Lawrence (2012) stated, “A recent study out of the University of Texas shows that universities can gain operating savings of as much as 50% by ...
For a while now, a certain method of teaching has become popular in many colleges across the nation: online education. Online education is learning with the assistance of the Internet and a personal computer in place of attending a classroom with other students. Many online classes offer students the opportunity to learn while not having to leave the comfort of their home. Colleges in America are offering more and more courses online as an alternative to the traditional way of learning in a classroom. However, many disagree with the notion of providing online classes to students.
Those who disagree with me think that online learning allows a student to learn at their own pace. Students are able to take the time to understand and figure out problems with the resources that are provided. The convenience of learning in an environment that is conducive to that particular students learning is provided by the student. If the student feels comfortable they are more apt
There are many advantages to online learning, it affects the way people can learn. According to “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students”, “students have a greater willingness to write or work on computational skills”. “They say student like the immediate results of having online learning.” Another advantage is that students can learn at their own pace. With learning at their own pace they will be able to actually know the information well. If, they are in a regular classroom setting they may no...
