One of Charlie Brown quote that resonates with me is "it's not what's under the Christmas tree that matters; it's who is around it with you". Christmas is one of the most cheerful holidays and for me it is a wonderful feeling as it brings feelings happiness, joy, love and friendship. Although, my family drives me insane at time it is always good connecting and bonding with them, especially if I have not seen them in a while. The sense of belonging provides me with security, acceptance and love. Being with family on Christmas creates a legacy and tradition of my own. While they are cutting and cleaning the meat, I sat and watched movies or play video games. As soon as they are done, I drove my grandmother's home so she can cook the meat in her home. On Christmas day the first thing we do is pray, we give thanks to God for his blessings and to be alive to see another Christmas with families. The Next thing we do is open our gifts from one another. My sister is always the first person up in the morning; she was excited to give us our gifts. When it’s time to open our gifts, my sister will not allow us to do anything else, not even to have breakfast, her gifts will always come first. Her gifts are very thoughtful as she pays attention to things that we desire and really like. Afterwards, my sister and I return to our rooms, while we are in bed, my mother would then proceed to prepare breakfast. Breakfast normally consists all of our favorite’s tea, porridge, cereal (cinnamon toast), ackee and salt fish, eggs, bacons, fried plantains, fried dumplings, fresh bread, fresh fruits, breadfruit and French toast. Christmas, I love Christmas, I love shopping for presents for my loved ones, thinking about the gifts I want to give, the wrapping and arranging them under the beautiful Christmas tree. I love the planning and preparing Christmas dinner, filling the house with wonderful fragrant smells hoping everyone comes and has a good time and still talking to each other when they leave. Most of all though, I love the Christmas tree, I love the excitement as the hunt begins for the perfect tree finally when everyone is in agreement we bring it home hoping it’s not too tall too short too fat or too skinny and most important stands up straight. Somehow it always fits and always looks beautiful, I am never disappointed and my tree is always perfect and beautiful.
Christmas has consumed itself. At its conception, it was a fine idea, and I imagine that at one point its execution worked very much as it was intended to. These days, however, its meaning has been perverted; its true purpose ignored and replaced with a purpose imagined by those who merely go through the motions, without actually knowing why they do so.

Christmas is a special time of year that deserves to be remembered for its true meaning. Every year, Christmas becomes more and more commercialized and society forgets the origin of Christmas. It was not started with cookies, toys, and a fat man that delivers them, but instead it started with a humble inn where our Savior was born. The definition of Christmas is “a holiday on December 25 celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.” Nowhere in that definition does it say anything about the outrageous pressure society has set on consumers to buy, buy, buy during the Christmas season. Christmas is about presence not presents.
Today it seems as though Christmas has fallen victim to materialism and commercialization. Rather than it being a time of loving and giving, it has become a stressful season of greed. Amidst all the hustle and bustle, it is important for us to recognize the true reason of the season, and celebrate in a fashion that exemplifies that reason.

As I look out my window I see tiny snowflakes slowly drifting down. I can hear the roar of laughter coming from the living room downstairs. Soon enough Saint Nick will be upon us. Christmas always brings everyone home for the holidays. Christmas is a wonderful time of year filled with decorations, cookies, Christmas lights and a huge Christmas tree. As I was growing up the Christmas tree was the biggest thing to have in our family. It was the very first thing we would beg to be put up so we could decorate it however we wanted it. We had a nine foot tall Christmas tree that would sit right as you walked in to our living room. My brothers and I was always so excited to have it brought up the steps and set up to where we could decorate it and put the angel on the very tip top of the tree.
