Being a Criminologist

Criminology is an interesting and unique career. It may not be a well-known occupation for the average teenager, but the career is extremely intriguing. I was raised knowing more things than most children do. I spent countless times eavesdropping whenever my dad was talking to my mom about the cases he was working on. Some point along the way I decided I wanted to know why these people did the things they do. Criminology seemed like the best occupation for me.
There are many different aspect and factors to criminologists. One aspect is that “they consider psychological and social concerns, research data about crimes and arrests and study the background of the criminal to determine if any biological situations led him or her to commit the crime” (Criminologist). This means that criminologists must be able to used critical thinking and have a great eye to detail. It is important for them to be able to go through many different scenarios that could possibly happen. If they don’t, it could mean risking the lives of future victims, themselves, and even possibly people that are close to them. Criminologists also publish their data and have lectures, this means they also need to have great people skills and be able to talk to a large number of people.
The education process is slightly tedious. Most criminologists major in criminology, psychology, and sociology. It is important for criminologists to be able to read and understand a person’s mind. Psychology and sociology is a great major that they can do because it will make things easier for them. Some other things they can major in are criminal justice and history. ...k of possible injuries and/or death. After knowing all of this, I feel like I can make the necessary sacrifices for now. Eventually I will retire and might pursue a family, but for now this career is most definitely the occupation for me.
