If you’re needing to get yourself out of a rut – maybe feeling a bit depressed for some reason – then be thankful. It may sound a bit weird, but the idea is obviously not to be thankful for your depression, but to find things that you can feel more positive about.
You can be thankful just for being alive today – “I am thankful for waking up this morning!” Be thankful for your cup of coffee, and your sense of taste. Be thankful for your family and friends, and for the sun and the seasons. Once you start thinking about it, there are many things to be thankful for!
I find it useful to keep a regular “gratitude journal” in Evernote. Other people like to use different types of software, or even a handwritten diary. Whatever system you decide to try, you want to make it a habit. Each time you go through this, even just for five or ten minutes, you shift your mindset into a positive area. Lifting your thoughts like this every day will improve your feelings and your health. Your health improves once you feel more positive and you have a reason to be more active and eat healthily.
