I feel happy for given a chance to complete such interesting assignment, that I actually sit down and think hard about what can I achieve in the coming weeks. To keep the cost down, I try to set a goal which I do not need to spend much to achieve it, and then I remember I do have a keyboard in my house for years, it was actually a gift for my mom on her 45th birthday. I think it’s time for me to learn piano rather than placing it without touching. I choose “Fur Elise” because this is one of the most famous classical pieces of all time and it is also my
After the intermission and the house lights were dimmed. I settled back into the concert, and decided that there was no way I would like the last piece as much as the B minor Sonata. The Fourth piece just seemed to drag by. The fifth piece got a little better. It was by Tchaikovsky and I always tend to like his music. This was no exception. I was back. It was from “The Seasons, October – The Autumn Song” and it was very enjoyable. Finally, the moment I was waiting for, and was it ever worth the wait. “Islamey” is generally considered one of the most difficult works ever written for piano.

What can appear to gleam and reflect such beauty and craftsmanship yet can be handled by a three year old. It’s sound so pure by a touch of a finger has been in existence for well over a hundred years and is the foundation for creating music. It’s black and white keys produce sounds when played correctly that can bring tears to one’s eyes, touch your heart and soul, bring hope, or even joy and laughter to an event. All of this power… lies in the piano. The piano from its creation to this very second had transformed the world of music no matter what class, talent, and ability.
While many people listen and enjoy music, not all people analyze music for more complex things such as formal analysis or melody. However, by examining music for these things it is possible to gain a greater understanding of the music. This makes it so that people have greater appreciation for the music as well. Some of the best music to analyze is classical music. This is because classical music has many different levels and has lasted test of time over many year. The current essay examine Bach’s work prelude-fugue in D major for background, formal elements, and cultural elements.
Sampling works from different artist is not a foreign concept in today’s music, especially in the hip-hop industry. It is not uncommon for artists to take even classical music and incorporate it into the melodies of their songs. This is exactly what rapper Nasir Jones, Nas, did in 2003. He released the song “I Can,” the first single from his album, God’s Son, an inspirational song written to inspire inner-city youth. Its lyrics are positive as it encourages the youth to stay drug free and pursue their dreams. The lyrics also detail various events in African history. Jones samples “Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor,” or “Für Elise” as it’s more commonly known, by Ludwig van Beethoven. It’s one of Beethoven most recognizable pieces and one of his most popular works. “Für Elise” is referred to as a bagatelle because it carries a light, positive character that also has a mellow tone. The word bagatelle is actually defined as “a short
The Piano Guys are an American musical group consisting of four main members: Jon Schmidt, Steven Sharp Nelson, Paul Anderson, and Al van der Beek. They gained popularity through YouTube, where they posted piano and cello versions of popular songs and classical music.
Richard Strauss died in 1949, but he will never be forgotten. Though he wasn’t the first, nor the last, to use the Symphonic Poem music style, his pieces are some of the most well known and memorable. His interpretation of “Don Quixote” astounded people when it was first played, and it still astounds people today.
The third movement of Mozart’s Piano Sonata in A, K. 331 is heavily influenced by the music of Turkish Janissary bands, hence its name “Alla Turca”, literally meaning “in the Turkish style”. The style is musically reflected in the different musical elements of the movement, and the three main features which contribute to its alla turca style that will be analyzed and discussed in this essay are rhythm, melody and timbre.
“Appassionata” is a piano sonata central to the heroic period. Beethoven first started writing this piece in 1804, but did not complete it until September of 1806 (Broede). “Appassionata” is Beethoven’s 23rd sonata. There are three movements, which include allegro assai, andante con moto, and allegro ma non troppo. As quoted by Glenn Gould, “The ‘Appassionata’, in common with most of the works Beethoven wrote in the first decade of the 19th century, is a study in thematic tenacity. His conceit at this period was to create mammoth structures from material that, in lesser hands, would scarcely have afforded a good 16-bar introduction” (Broede). “Appassionata” Sonata is one of Beethoven’s highest and greatest achievements, as only the best of highly talented pianists dare to come near playing this piece. Beethoven’s “Appassionata” Sonata, as well as Beethoven’s music in general, is important and worthy of the highest praise as he commits to structure, surface tension and drama using a variety of musical elements such as rhythm, texture, timber and register.
In Beethoven 's music is an experience, an act of intellectual creation while released from the rigor of logical thought when the play unfolds its power.
Tchaikovsky is one of the most popular of all composers. The reasons are several and understandable. His music is extremely tuneful, opulently and colourfully scored, and filled with emotional passion. Undoubtedly the emotional temperature of the music reflected the composer's nature. He was afflicted by both repressed homosexuality and by the tendency to extreme fluctuations between ecstasy and depression. Tchaikovsky was neurotic and deeply sensitive, and his life was often painful, but through the agony shone a genius that created some of the most beautiful of all romantic melodies. With his rich gifts for melody and special flair for writing memorable dance tunes, with his ready response to the atmosphere of a theatrical situation and his masterly orchestration, Tchaikovsky was ideally equipped as a ballet composer. His delightful fairy-tale ballets, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker are performed more than any other ballets. Swan Lake, Tchaikovsky's first ballet, was commissioned by the Imperial Theatres in Moscow in 1875. He used some music from a little domestic ballet of the same title, composed for his sister Alexandra's children in 1871.
It seems he has brief moments of clarity and fits of anger, then lapse back to a quiet period of tranquility. It is as though he is listening to a voice calling and speaking to him and he wants to hear more. Taken over with a renewed vigor he pours out the notes before him, possessing the very thing he was afraid of, losing his hearing. With determination he fought to listen to the still small voice within that was leading him where he not only wanted but had to go.

When I hear Mozart, there is one piece that comes to mind. Eine kleine Nachtmusik is such an uplifting, enlightening piece. The piece makes my feet tap and my hands flow as if I am conducting Mozart’s music in person. Growing up, I visited a rather unique annual Christmas light display that twinkled with the beat as that song played. Any time I hear this song I think about the happiness of Christmas and all the miracles that go along with it in a child’s imagination. Even till this day Mozart’s music brings me back to my childhood, and for that, it makes me want to listen over and over
